?Diagnostic and pre-operative imaging has become increasingly adopted throughout the field of gynecology. In particular accurate preoperative analysis of ovarian pathology can improve the selection of the correct therapeutical approach, to reduce the length of operations, maximize surgical technique, and can ultimately improve a range of operative outcomes. New imaging modalities have advanced to the point of high resolution, three-dimensional analysis of tissue anatomy, composition and perfusion. Ultrasonography (US), Computed tomographic (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging have recently emerged as outstanding non-invasive techniques for the detection and characterization of ovarian pathology. In particular, US has probably now imposed itself as the “state-of-the-art” technique to explore the ovarian neoplasm, thanks the technical advancement like texture analysis (MGV) and 3D potentialities, although MR with new sequences like the diffusion-weighted imaging and greater magnetic fields (3 Tesla or more) may become leading methods in the future. The purpose of this book is to cover all the imaging techniques, potential for applying such imaging clinically, and to offer present and future applications as applied to ovarian pathology with the most world renowned scientists in these fields. The book is designed according to the pathological classification of the benign and malignant ovarian neoplasm by presenting for each pathology the clinical setting followed by the imaging approach. At the end of each chapter a “focus concept” paragraph will be presented with take-home point for the readers.

Questa opera realizzata da un gruppo di professori della (ex)Facoltà di Agraria di Firenze ha l'unico intento di raccontare, attraverso pochi e significativi argomenti, i primi cento anni (1913-2013) di una istituzione che con i suoi ricercatori, tecnici e amministrativi, ha contribuito, come un solo corpo, all'avanzamento delle conoscenze nelle scienze agrarie e, in ambito territoriale, al successo del comparto agroalimentare toscano. Ma i veri protagonisti di questa opera non sono solo i Maestri della Scuola agraria e forestale fiorentina bensì le migliaia di studenti che in cento anni hanno frequentato, prima l'Istituto nazionale forestale e poi la facoltà e che hanno portato in Italia e nel mondo i frutti degli insegnamenti ricevuti a Firenze.

È passato tanto tempo da quando Vicky si è trasferita nella nuova città e si è trovata ad affrontare tanti problemi tutti assieme: l'improvvisa morte di nonna, il divorzio dei suoi genitori, la consapevolezza di stare cambiando dentro e fuori. La discussione filosofica sul nuovo realismo, che ha alimentato negli ultimi anni in Italia un ampio dibattito, non solo disciplinare, ha suscitato anche tra gli architetti alcuni interrogativi che riguardano, da un lato, il rapporto tra il mondo delle idee e il mondo degli oggetti fisici e più concretamente tra teoria e pratica dell'architettura e, dall'altro, il ruolo degli architetti e delle opere realizzate rispetto alla elaborazione del pensiero filosofico e speculativo. A questi interrogativi si è cercato di dare risposta in alcuni convegni, svoltisi tra Torino e Napoli nel 2012 e nel 2013, e per non perdere di vista il contatto con la realtà costruita dell'architettura, si è deciso di affiancare alla discussione teorica anche una mostra, con l'obiettivo di affrontare la questione del rapporto tra architettura e realismo anche sul piano delle opere costruite. In particolare sono state individuate due questioni come il filo rosso che unisce nelle discussioni e nelle realizzazioni architettoniche degli ultimi trent'anni esperienze diverse, nel tempo e nello spazio, in una tensione comune verso la realtà: il rapporto con la città e il rapporto con la storia e la tradizione dell'architettura.

Ci sono giustizia, libertà, correttezza e solidarietà in queste opere, gli stessi valori che permeavano il filosofo, e che egli stesso insegnava ai suoi figli, ai suoi studenti e, ora, anche a chi si approccia a questo volume.

This edited book focuses on recent developments in Dynamic Network Modeling, including aspects of route guidance and traffic control as they relate to transportation systems and other complex infrastructure networks. Dynamic Network Modeling is generally understood to be the mathematical modeling of time-varying vehicular flows on networks in a fashion that is consistent with established traffic flow theory and travel demand theory.

Dynamic Network Modeling as a field has grown over the last thirty years, with contributions from various scholars all over the field. The basic problem which many scholars in this area have focused on is related to the analysis and prediction of traffic flows satisfying notions of equilibrium when flows are changing over time. In addition, recent research has also focused on integrating dynamic equilibrium with traffic control and other mechanism designs such as congestion pricing and network design. Recently, advances in sensor deployment, availability of GPS-enabled vehicular data and social media data have rapidly contributed to better understanding and estimating the traffic network states and have contributed to new research problems which advance previous models in dynamic modeling.

A recent National Science Foundation workshop on “Dynamic Route Guidance and Traffic Control” was organized in June 2010 at Rutgers University by Prof. Kaan Ozbay, Prof. Satish Ukkusuri , Prof. Hani Nassif, and Professor Pushkin Kachroo. This workshop brought together experts in this area from universities, industry and federal/state agencies to present recent findings in this area. Various topics were presented at the workshop including dynamic traffic assignment, traffic flow modeling, network control, complex systems, mobile sensor deployment, intelligent traffic systems and data collection issues. This book is motivated by the research presented at this workshop and the discussions that followed.
