Una storia degli ultimi sessant'anni di Firenze, raccontata dalla viva voce di alcuni dei suoi più illustri protagonisti: Giancarlo Antognoni, Ettore Bernabei, Cesara Buonamici, Franco Cardini, Irene Grandi, Matteo Renzi, con il contributo introduttivo di Giuseppe Mascambruno. Una cronaca per parole, ma anche per immagini.

Nella seconda metà del Novecento, autori come J. Smart, R. Brandt, R. Hare e J. Harsanyi hanno tentato di chiarire, attraverso diverse strategie argomentative, come sia possibile sottoporre ad analisi filosofica i desideri e i voleri. Il preferenzialismo (o teoria delle preferenze morali), di cui gli autori ricordati sono espressione, crede nella piena valutabilità dei desideri attraverso criteri puramente logici e formali, dunque rigorosi e condivisibili. Questa prospettiva risulta, però, deludente perché, come fa notare B. Williams, i desideri sono rivelatori di una dimensione personale che il filosofo non può ignorare nelle sue indagini. E neppure le vite degli altri, insiste D. Parfit, possono essere estranee all'orizzonte morale. L'esperienza del desiderare rimanda, così, alla ricerca del bene, come suggeriscono C. Taylor e Stuart Hampshire, una ricerca mai conclusa, alla quale è connaturato il conflitto e la tensione problematica. Tutto questo sembra dirci che è fondamentale porre di nuovo al centro la phronesis, la razionalità pratica consapevole del carattere aperto e sempre modulabile dell'idea di vita buona.
