![]() ![]() Author: Bolt John (EDT), Bratt James D. (EDT), Visser Paul J. (EDT), De Jong James A. (TRN) Publisher: Eerdmans Pub Co In today's pluralistic context, many evangelicals struggle to navigate between an absolutist position on Christianity and a relativistic religious pluralism. J. H. Bavinck, a prominent twentieth-century missiologist in the Calvinist tradition, wrestled with this tension as he thought and wrote about major world religions, particularly based on his own experience in Indonesia. Offering a constructive way forward, Bavinck affirms both the particularity of salvation in Christ and the universality of the Christian hope. Editors John Bolt, James D. Bratt, and Paul J. Visser have gathered a selection of Bavinck's significant writings, very little of it readily available in English until now. A substantial introduction by Visser provides the most thorough biographical sketch of Bavinck currently available in English. € 33,90

![]() ![]() Author: Bennett-Levy James (EDT), Richards David A. (EDT), Farrand Paul (EDT), Christensen Helen (EDT), Griffiths Kathleen M. (EDT) Publisher: Oxford University Press A radical new approach to the treatment of common mental health problems is emerging. Until recently, the only form of evidence-based psychological intervention available for many people with depression and anxiety was traditional one-to-one therapy - but most people had difficulty accessing it. The choice was either long waiting lists in public health systems (if therapy was available), or private practitioners for those people who could afford it. The situation is fast changing. Now, low intensity CBT interventions, in a variety of forms, are becoming widely available. Over the next decade, they will revolutionize mental health care, enabling vastly increased numbers of people with depression and anxiety access to brief, cost-effective, evidence-based psychological interventions. The Oxford Guide to Low intensity CBT interventions is the first book to provide a comprehensive guide to low intensity CBT interventions. It brings together researchers and clinicians from around the world who have led the way in developing evidence-based low intensity CBT treatments. It charts the plethora of ways that low intensity CBT can be delivered, including self-help books and internet-based CBT programs supported by practitioners using phone, email, SMS, or face-to-face contact; group treatments; advice clinics; brief GP interventions; as well as stand alone internet-based treatment and prevention programs. These new treatments require new forms of service delivery, new ways of communicating, new forms of training and supervision, and development of new workforces. They involve changing systems and routine practice, and adapting interventions to specific community contexts. This is a state-of-the art practical handbook. It is essential reading for any psychologist, nurse, social worker, occupational therapist, psychiatrist, GP, physician, counselor or low intensity practitioner wishing to acquire the skills necessary for modern mental health care practice. It provides an easy-to-read guide to creating effective change for health service managers, public servants and politicians wanting to understand and anticipate future directions in health service provision. Only rarely do books emerge that signify a paradigm shift in health care practice, treatments and services. The Oxford Guide to Low Intensity CBT Interventions is a landmark book, denoting the start of a new era in mental health care. € 55,50

![]() ![]() Author: Tenkotte Paul A. (EDT), Claypool James C. (EDT) Publisher: Univ Pr of Kentucky Bridging past and present, The Encyclopedia of Northern Kentucky offers a groundbreaking examination of the people, places, and events of Northern Kentucky. With information spanning the eleven counties of Boone, Bracken, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Mason, Owen, Pendleton, and Robertson, this encyclopedia will appeal to casual readers and serious scholars alike. Seeing an opportunity to enrich historical understanding of the state, editors Paul A. Tenkotte and James C. Claypool gathered more than 2,100 entries written by more than three hundred authors to chronicle the historical, geographical, social, cultural, religious, political, and economic history of the Northern Kentucky area. The result of their efforts is a detailed portrait of a fiercely independent region, eager to secure a collective identity and looking forward to a future of purposeful growth as part of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the nation. Long before the racetrack was laid at Churchill Downs or farmers began to till the tobacco fields, Kentucky was a raw land full of promise. When pioneers like Daniel Boone and Simon Kenton roamed its hills and valleys, Northern Kentucky represented a crucial gateway for the westward expansion of the United States. The banks of the Ohio River in Maysville served as a point of departure for settlers looking for opportunity and adventure. With the coming of the abolitionist movement, Northern Kentucky was a hotbed of interaction between the North and the South. Slaves along the Underground Railroad often concealed themselves in the basements and cupboards of welcoming citizens in Maysville, Covington, and Newport. The area was marked by danger, as hunters tracked slaves who were attempting their final escape across the Ohio River. One such slave, Margaret Garner, chose to murder her daughter rather than endure her daughter's return to slavery; her dramatic story inspired author Toni Morrison to write the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Beloved. Northern Kentucky was also the site of a key confrontation in the Civil War. While encamped in the area in September 1862, the Union Army posted an impenetrable defense against the approaching Confederate forces, turning the tide of the war. With the coming of the twentieth century, the people of Northern Kentucky grew increasingly restless. Factions calling for reform battled proponents of a more agrarian, conservative state. Intolerable working conditions and wages provoked strikes, urban conflict, and a marked growth of the Socialist Party. In the 1940s, the diverse population of Northern Kentucky grew to include a large number of Appalachians, many of whom were employed in the swiftly growing industrial sector. Currently, Northern Kentucky is home to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, as well as major corporations like Ashland, Omnicare, and Toyota North America. The stabilizing influence that companies like these exerted on the economy helped the area regain its sense of unity. Today, Northern Kentucky forms one point of a new triangle: the "Golden Triangle" of Northern Kentucky, Louisville, and Lexington, which is the most economically prosperous area in the state. Northern Kentucky is thriving, and its varied, intriguing history is documented in this book, linking the region to the history of the greater Commonwealth. € 44,60

(CON) Publisher: Ivp Academic A long history of biblical exegesis and theological reflection has shaped our understanding of the atonement today. The more prominent highlights of this history have acquired familiar names for the household of faith: Christus Victor, penal substitutionary, subjective, and governmental. This book offers a "panel" discussion of four views of atonement maintained by four evangelical scholars. The proponents and their views are:Gregory A. Boyd: Christus Victor viewJoel B. Green: Kaleidescopic viewBruce R. Reichenbach: Healing viewThomas R. Schreiner: Penal Substitutionary viewFollowing an introduction written by the editors, each participant first puts forth the case for their view. Each view is followed by responses from the other three participants, noting points of agreement as well as disagreement. This is a book that will help Christians understand the issues, grasp the differences and proceed toward a clearer articulation of their understanding of the atonement. € 22,20

![]() ![]() Author: Beilby James K. (EDT), Eddy Paul R. (EDT), Boyd Gregory A. (CON), Hunt David (CON), Craig William Lane (CON), Helm Paul (CON) Publisher: Ivp Academic The question of the nature of God's foreknowledge and how that relates to human freedom has been pondered and debated by Christian theologians at least since the time of Augustine. And the issue will not go away. More recently, the terms of the debate have shifted, and the issue has taken on new urgency with the theological proposal known as the openness of God. This view maintains that God's knowledge, while perfect, is limited regarding the future inasmuch as the future is "open" and not settled. Divine Foreknowledge: Four Views provides a venue for well-known proponents of four distinct views of divine foreknowledge to present their cases:Gregory A. Boyd of Bethel College presents the open-theism view, David Hunt of Whittier College weighs in on the simple-foreknowledge view, William Lane Craig of Talbot School of Theology takes the middle-knowledge view, and Paul Helm of Regent College, Vancouver, presents the Augustinian-Calvinist view. All four respond to each of the other essayists, noting points of agreement and disagreement. Editors James K. Beilby and Paul R. Eddy introduce the contemporary debate and also offer a conclusion that helps you evaluate the relative strengths and weaknesses of each view. The result is a unique opportunity to grapple with the issues and arguments and frame your own understanding of this important debate. € 22,30
