![]() ![]() Author: Crofts Thomas, Lee Murray, Mcgovern Alyce, Milivojevic Sanja Publisher: Palgrave Macmillan This book empirically explores young people's practices and perceptions of sexting. It defines and surveys the various facets of sexting, and particularly addresses the ways in which sexting has been represented and responded to by the media, education campaigns and the law. It draws on a substantial body of qualitative and quantitative evidence of young people's views and experiences of sexting, a media discourse analysis capturing the tenure of public discussion about sexting, and an in-depth analysis of existing laws and sanctions that apply to sexting. Sexting and Young People also analyses the important broader socio-legal issues raised by sexting and the appropriateness of current responses. In doing so, this book offers important recommendations for policy makers and the legal system, and provides direction for future approaches to sexting research. € 112,20

![]() ![]() Author: Baird-Murray Kathleen Publisher: Harry N Abrams Inc Ralph Lauren’s designs vividly embody the American Dream, and he has risen to become one of the world’s foremost fashion designers. His genius lies in his innate skill for interpreting key cultural elements of Americana—whether from folk art or the preppy world of Hamptons’ socialites or Navajo motifs—and encapsulating them in appealing garments. Also a natural fit with Hollywood, he has designed costumes for films such asThe Great Gatsby (1974) and Annie Hall and created countless looks for stars on the red carpet. From his ubiquitous, equestrian-tagged Polo shirts to his American-country-club take on upper-class Englishness, his skill in making aspiration accessible is second to none. Vogue on Ralph Lauren is a volume from the series created by the editors of British Vogue, featuring 20,000 words of original biography and history and studded with more than 80 images from their unique archive of photos taken by leading photographers including Bruce Weber, Patrick Demarchelier, and Mario Testino. € 18,50

![]() ![]() Author: Lee Murray, Mcgovern Alyce Publisher: Taylor & Francis This book examines the relationship between police, media and the public and analyses the shifting techniques and technologies through which they communicate. In a critical discussion of contemporary and emerging modes of mediatized police work, Lee and McGovern demonstrate how the police engage with the public through a fluid and quickly expanding assemblage of communications and information technologies. Policing and Media explores the rationalities that are driving police/media relations and asks; how these relationships differ (or not) from the ways they have operated historically; what new technologies are influencing and being deployed by policing organizations and police public relations professionals and why; how operational policing is shaping and being shaped by new technologies of communication; and what forms of resistance are evident to the manufacture of preferred images of police. The authors suggest that new forms of simulated and hyper real policing using platforms such as social media and reality television are increasingly positioning police organisations as media organisations, and in some cases enabling police to bypass the traditional media altogether. The book is informed by empirical research spanning 10 years in this field and includes chapters on journalism and police, policing and social media, policing and reality television, and policing resistances. It will be of interest to those researching and teaching in the fields of Criminology, Policing and Media as well as police and media professionals. € 39,50

![]() ![]() Author: MacCabe Colin (EDT), Murray Kathleen (EDT), Warner Rick (EDT) Publisher: Oxford Univ Pr on Demand "True to the Spirit shifts the terms of the moribund debate about fidelity and adaptation. It presents a series of revelatory investigations on the productivity of adaptation across the history of cinema that trace also a history of intermediality, of the mingling of media forms, as such practices become ever more central to the current digital mediascape. It is not too much to say that this book is simply groundbreaking, easily and by far the best book on this important subject, and one that should be required reading for all film and literature students."---Lee Grieveson, University College London "True to the Spirit revives adaptation as a key conceptual framework for understanding cinema's intricate political and aesthetic dialogues---and disagreements---with works in other media. This is a generous book: it addresses a surprising range of films and texts, and will foster the creativity of its readers through its expansive, historically detailed case studies."---Karia Oeler, Emory University Fifty percent of Hollywood productions each year are adaptations---films that use an already published book, dramatic work, or comic as their source material. If the original is well known, then for most spectators the question of whether these adaptations are "true to the spirit" of the original is central. The recent wave of adaptation studies dismisses the question of fidelity as irrelevant, mistaken, or an affront to the unstable nature of meaning itself. The essays gathered here, mixing the field's top authorities (Andrew, Gunning, Jameson, Mulvey, and Naremore) with fresh new voices, take the question of correspondence between source and adaptation as seriously as do producers and audiences. Spanning examples from Shakespeare to Ghost World, and addressing such notable directors as Welles, Kubrick, Hawks, Tarkovsky, and Ophuls, the contributors write against the grain of recent adaptation studies by investigating the question of what fidelity might mean in its broadest and truest sense, what it might reveal of the adaptive process, and why it is still one of the richest veins of investigation in the study of cinema. € 38,30

![]() ![]() Author: Kolko Jon, Johnson Beth (CON), Ericson Gianna Marzilli (CON), Gould Paul (CON), Murray Colleen (CON) Publisher: Oxford University Press As the world deals with increasing complexity in issues of sustainability, finance, culture and technology business and governments are searching for a form of problem solving that can deal with the unprecedented levels of ambiguity and chaos. Traditional "linear thinking" has been disparaged by the popular media as being inadequate for dealing with the global economic crisis. Standard forms of marketing and product development have been rejected by businesses who need to find a way to stay competitive in a global economy. Yet little has been offered as an alternative. It is not enough to demand that someone "be more innovative" without giving him the tools to succeed. Design synthesis is a way of thinking about complicated, multifaceted problems of this scale with a repeatable degree of success. Design synthesis methods can be applied in business, with the goal of producing new and compelling products and services, and they can be applied in government, with the goal of changing culture and bettering society. In both contexts, however, there is a need for speed and for aggressive action. This text is immediately relevant, and is more relevant than ever, as we acknowledge and continually reference a feeling of an impending and massive change. Simply, this text is intended to act as a practitioner's guide to exposing the magic of design. There are three simple goals for this text. The first goal is to present a theory of design synthesis in a simple and concise manner. This theory is based on academic research and discourse, but presented in a way that is clear and valuable to a practicing design manager, designer or design researcher. This theory of design synthesis can then be used to substantiate single methods of synthesis. The second goal is to offer a rationalization of why design synthesis is important, both in a general sense ("why should I care about this at all?") as well as in a more immediate sense ("why should I care about this right now?"). The final goal is to present a set of actionable, learnable methods for design synthesis that can be applied to any design problem. Practicing industrial designers, interaction designers, interface designers, and designers of other disciplines can use these methods to make sense of complicated design problems and to move seamlessly from various forms of research to design. The methods can add a systematic sense of rigor to an otherwise subjective, often introspective process. € 59,30
