![]() ![]() Author: Marks Andreas; Paget Rhiannon Publisher: TASCHEN La strada della Kisokaidô fu fatta costruire all'inizio del XVII secolo da Tokugawa Ieyasu, allora governatore del Paese, il quale decretò la creazione di stazioni di posta lungo l'ardua via che univa le città di Edo (l'odierna Tokyo) e Kyoto. Locande, empori e taverne aprirono i battenti per fornire alloggio e ristoro agli stanchi viandanti. Nel 1835, il celebre xilografo Keisai Eisen fu incaricato di realizzare una serie di stampe per tracciare una mappa delle stazioni del percorso. Dopo le prime 24 stampe, il compito passò nelle mani di Utagawa Hiroshige, il quale completò la serie di 70 illustrazioni nel 1838. Eisen e Hiroshige erano entrambi rinomati per le loro stampe, e nelle Sessantanove stazioni della Kisokaidô possiamo ritrovarne i diversi stili così come la comune maestria. Dalla trafficata stazione di partenza di Nihonbashi alla città fortificata di Iwamurata, Eisen adoperò colori tenui per ritrarre i suoi mirabili personaggi - in particolare donne belle ed eleganti - e si concentrò soprattutto su scene di vita quotidiana, come la ferratura di un cavallo o il vaglio del riso. Hiroshige dimostrò invece la propria maestria di paesaggista con scene grandiose ed evocative, come le placide sponde del fiume Ota, l'impervio passo Wada o un'arrampicata al chiaro di luna tra Yawata e Mochizuki.
