Keegan John Title : La grande storia della guerra. Dalla preistoria al Novecento
Author: Keegan John
Publisher: Res Gestae

Keegan John; Pagliano M. (cur.) Title : La seconda guerra mondiale. 1939-1945. Una storia militare
Author: Keegan John; Pagliano M. (cur.)
Publisher: Il Saggiatore

Aria, acqua, terra.

Smoot Tom, Keegan John P. (FRW) Title : The Edisons of Fort Myers
Author: Smoot Tom, Keegan John P. (FRW)
Publisher: Pineapple Pr Inc

In 1885, Thomas Edison, age thirty-nine and already a world-famous inventor, met the two great loves of his life: Mina Miller and Fort Myers, Florida. Mina soon became his second wife, and Fort Myers—a remote, almost inaccessible, village on Florida’s southwest coast—became their winter home.

Other tomes tell the global account of Thomas Edison, the American icon named by Life magazine as the “Man of the Millennium.” This book offers a look at his life in his tropical retreat, his “jungle,” where for forty-six years he and his bride sought refuge from the cold winters and the demanding lifestyle of his New Jersey home, laboratory, and business complex.

While in Fort Myers he watched over his extensive botanical gardens, fished from both his boat and his long dock, interacted with the locals, and labored for many hours in his laboratory. Henry Ford and his family lived nextdoor and many dignitaries came to visit, including President-elect Hoover and Harvey Firestone.

The Edisons became an essential part of the Fort Myers story. They made lifelong friendships with townsfolk and joined in local activities until the love affair of the Edisons was cut short by the death of Thomas in 1931. Mina continued to live out her love for Fort Myers and its people until her death in 1947. She gave their winter estate, Seminole Lodge (Thomas’s “jungle”), to the grateful citizens of Fort Myers.

Keegan John Title : The American Civil War
Author: Keegan John
Publisher: Vintage Books

For the past half century, John Keegan, the greatest military historian of our time, has been returning to the scenes of America’s most bloody and wrenching war to ponder its lingering conundrums: the continuation of fighting for four years between such vastly mismatched sides; the dogged persistence of ill-trained, ill-equipped, and often malnourished combatants; the effective absence of decisive battles among some two to three hundred known to us by name. Now Keegan examines these and other puzzles with a peerless understanding of warfare, uncovering dimensions of the conflict that have eluded earlier historiography.

While offering original and perceptive insights into psychology, ideology, demographics, and economics, Keegan reveals the war’s hidden shape—a consequence of leadership, the evolution of strategic logic, and, above all, geography, the Rosetta Stone of his legendary decipherments of all great battles. The American topography, Keegan argues, presented a battle space of complexity and challenges virtually unmatched before or since. Out of a succession of mythic but chaotic engagements, he weaves an irresistible narrative illuminated with comparisons to the Napoleonic Wars, the First World War, and other conflicts.

The American Civil War
is sure to be hailed as a definitive account of its eternally fascinating subject.

Keegan John Title : Il Volto della battaglia. Azincourt, Waterloo, la Somme
Author: Keegan John
Publisher: Il Saggiatore

Hanson Victor Davis, Keegan John (INT) Title : The Western Way of War
Author: Hanson Victor Davis, Keegan John (INT)
Publisher: Univ of California Pr

The Greeks of the classical age invented not only the central idea of Western politics--that the power of state should be guided by a majority of its citizens--but also the central act of Western warfare, the decisive infantry battle. Instead of ambush, skirmish, or combat between individual heroes, the Greeks of the fifth century B.C. devised a ferocious, brief, and destructive head-on clash between armed men of all ages. In this bold, original study, Victor Davis Hanson shows how this brutal enterprise was dedicated to the same outcome as consensual government--an unequivocal, instant resolution to dispute. Linking this new style of fighting to the rise of constitutional government, Hanson raises new issues and questions old assumptions about the history of war. A new preface addresses recent scholarship on Greek warfare.

The Renaissance at War

Toward the end of the fifteenth century, modern artillery and portable firearms became the signature weapons of European armies, radically altering the nature of warfare. The new arms transformed society, too, as cities were built and rebuilt to limit the effects of bombardment by cannon. This book follows these far-reaching changes in comprehensive and fascinating detail and demonstrates how the innovations of the Renaissance paved the way to further changes in warfare.

  • An in-depth technical look at the weaponry of the age and the tactical drills that honed the skills of Renaissance soldiers

  • The epic wars abroad between Western Christians and the Muslim Turks Civil strife at home between despotic rulers and rebellious forces

  • Kingly duels that play out on an international stage

Porch Douglas, Keegan John (EDT) Title : Wars of Empire
Author: Porch Douglas, Keegan John (EDT)
Publisher: Harpercollins

Often described as the high renaissance of Western imperialism, the nineteenth century was characterized by European conquest and colonial rule. Although imperialist power was on the rise, Douglas Porch refutes the notion that indigenous militias were easily overtaken by their European conquerors. Porch explores the rise of imperial power, and the reasons for the temporary supremacy of some of the empire builders, but he also examines why such far-flung empires ultimately proved to be unsustainable.

  • A full exploration of the expansion and ultimate decline of imperial power, strain from conflict abroad, and the reality of the colonizers' struggling home economies.
  • Full narration of the British army's defeats at the hands of American rebels, Afghan fighters, Indian mutineers, and the Boers.
  • Analysis of Russia's humiliating defeat in the Caucasus, and France's defeat in Algeria, embarrassments that demonstrated the limitations of imperial power.

Keegan John Title : La maschera del comando
Author: Keegan John
Publisher: Net

Keegan John Title : The Iraq War
Author: Keegan John
Publisher: Vintage Books

The 2003 Iraq war remains among the most mysterious armed conflicts of modernity. In The Iraq War, John Keegan offers a sharp and lucid appraisal of the military campaign, explaining just how the coalition forces defeated an Iraqi army twice its size and addressing such questions as whether Saddam Hussein ever possessed weapons of mass destruction and how it is possible to fight a war that is not, by any conventional measure, a war at all.

Drawing on exclusive interviews with Donald Rumsfeld and General Tommy Franks, Keegan retraces the steps that led to the showdown in Iraq, from the highlights of Hussein's murderous rule to the diplomatic crossfire that preceded the invasion. His account of the combat in the desert is unparalleled in its grasp of strategy and tactics. The result is an urgently needed and up-to-date book that adds immeasurably to our understanding of those twenty-one days of war and their long, uncertain aftermath.

Keegan John Title : Intelligence in War
Author: Keegan John
Publisher: Vintage Books

John Keegan, whose many books, including classic histories of the two world wars, have confirmed him as the premier miltary historian of our time, here presents a masterly look at the value and limitations of intelligence in the conduct of war.

Intelligence gathering is an immensely complicated and vulnerable endeavor. And it often fails. Until the invention of the telegraph and radio, information often traveled no faster than a horse could ride, yet intelligence helped defeat Napoleon. In the twentieth century, photo analysts didn't recognize Germany's V-2 rockets for what they were; on the other hand, intelligence helped lead to victory over the Japanese at Midway. In Intelligence in War, John Keegan illustrates that only when paired with force has military intelligence been an effective tool, as it may one day be in besting al-Qaeda.
