Un libro che raccoglie esercizi segreti sufi basati sugli insegnamenti di una particolare setta e riguardanti suoni e gesti insoliti, insieme alle cosiddette lettere abbreviate che si trovano all'inizio di determinati capitoli del Corano. Si ritiene che tali esercizi siano in grado di perfezionare lo spirito dell'individuo. Il manuale, pubblicato in tedesco nel 1924, consiste in una descrizione e in un programma di esercizi da svolgere regolarmente per molti mesi. Non viene fornita alcuna informazione concreta riguardante gli effetti sull'individuo, ma è chiaramente sottinteso che la ricompensa sarà grande e che il praticante conseguirà ogni sorta di conoscenza e saggezza.

Esistono, fino adesso, poche notizie sulla magia del Vicino Oriente. Troviamo nelle memorie dei viaggiatori che hanno visitato quei posti dei racconti di fatti miracolosi da loro visti; gli ordini dervisci, che di quei fatti miracolosi sono i principali protagonisti, evitano di mostrarli in pubblico. La levitazione, praticata soprattutto dai Mewlewi, è vista come controprova di stati superiori di coscienza, ma viene eseguita soltanto in ristrette cerchie di aderenti. L'invulnerabilità e i giochi con il fuoco dei Rufai sono, ugualmente, fatti vedere solo molto raramente. Ciò che allo straniero si mostra di solito sono soltanto dei giochi di prestidigitazione. Nel primo capitolo vengono esposti alcuni procedimenti magici; nel secondo e nel terzo si dà un'esposizione generale dei diversi ordini dervisci e della bassa magia in Oriente.
