Shakespeare William; Jowett J. (cur.); Montgomery W. (cur.); Taylor G. (cur.) Title : Tutte le opere. Testo inglese a fronte. Vol. 4: Tragicommedie, drammi romanzeschi, sonetti, poemi, poesie occasionali
Author: Shakespeare William; Jowett J. (cur.); Montgomery W. (cur.); Taylor G. (cur.)
Publisher: Bompiani

Shakespeare William; Jowett J. (cur.); Montgomery W. (cur.); Taylor G. (cur.) Title : Tutte le opere. Testo inglese a fronte. Vol. 3: I drammi storici
Author: Shakespeare William; Jowett J. (cur.); Montgomery W. (cur.); Taylor G. (cur.)
Publisher: Bompiani

Shakespeare William; Jowett J. (cur.); Montgomery W. (cur.); Taylor G. (cur.) Title : Tutte le opere. Testo inglese a fronte. Vol. 2: Commedie
Author: Shakespeare William; Jowett J. (cur.); Montgomery W. (cur.); Taylor G. (cur.)
Publisher: Bompiani

George Lyman Kittredge’s insightful editions of Shakespeare have endured in part because of his eclecticism, his diversity of interests, and his wide-ranging accomplishments, all of which are reflected in the valuable notes in each volume.

These new editions have specific emphasis on the performance histories of the plays (on stage and screen).

  • Editor’s Introduction to the Focus Edition. An overview on major themes of the plays, and sections on the play’s performance history on stage and screen.

Maugham W. Somerset, Shakespeare Nicholas (INT) Title : Collected Stories
Author: Maugham W. Somerset, Shakespeare Nicholas (INT)
Publisher: Everymans Library

(Book Jacket Status: Jacketed)

From one of the twentieth century's most enduringly popular fiction writers: the only hardcover edition of his short stories.

Though W. Somerset Maugham was also famous for his novels and plays, it has been argued that in the short story he reached the pinnacle of his art. These expertly told tales, with their addictive plot twists and vividly drawn characters, are both galvanizing as literature and wonderfully entertaining. In the adventures of his alter ego Ashenden, a writer who (like Maugham himself) turned secret agent in World War I, as well as in stories set in such far-flung locales as South Pacific islands and colonial outposts in Southeast Asia, Maugham brings his characters vividly to life, and their humanity is more convincing for the author's merciless exposure of their flaws and failures.

Whether the chasms of misunderstanding he plumbs are those between colonizers and natives, between a missionary and a prostitute, or between a poetry-writing woman and her uncomprehending husband, Maugham brilliantly displays his irony, his wit, and his genius in the art of storytelling.

Shakespeare William, Hinman Charlton (EDT), Blayney Peter W. M. (INT), Folger Shakespeare Library (COR) Title : The First Folio of Shakespeare
Author: Shakespeare William, Hinman Charlton (EDT), Blayney Peter W. M. (INT), Folger Shakespeare Library (COR)
Publisher: W W Norton & Co Inc

When it was published in 1968, The Norton Facsimile set a new standard for scholarly accuracy. It was the first facsimile in which every page had been selected from a large number of copies in an attempt to find a clean, clear example with minimal show-through. Even more important, it offered the latest, most corrected state of pages known to vary from copy to copy because of correction at press. Finally, it introduced a standard system of reference, 'through line numbering,' based on the lines printed in the 1623 edition rather than on the acts, scenes, and lines of a modern edition. These improvements, the meticulous work of the great Folio scholar Charlton Hinman made possible by the extensive Folger Library Collection, established The Norton Facsimile as an indispensable volume for book collectors and serious readers of Shakespeare.
