Publisher: Zondervan

Adventure Awaits! When an archaeologist on an expedition in the Holy Land disappears, his four children are willing to try anything to find him. Dragging his assistant along, they join an offbeat tour group run by two zany guides whose mission, it turns out, is to lead kids from all over the world on a life-changing quest for truth. Soon the group is visiting ancient cities, exploring important geographical sites, and traveling back in time to experience biblical events firsthand---with the help of some Really Smart Phones (RSPs), a bunch of camels, jet skis, ATVs, hang gliders, and other wacky modes of transportation. Along the way, the children look for clues to their father's whereabouts and learn facts about ancient Bible times, the people, the culture, and witness important historical events, like the parting of the Red Sea, the building and filling of Noah's ark, and the crucifixion of Jesus. As they continue searching and their father is not to be found, the kids are tempted to give up. But finishing this crazy tour may just be the key to finding their father---and learning what life is all about! The Adventure Bible Handbook is the newest addition to the Adventure Bible family of titles. The Adventure Bible is the #1 Bible for kids, packed with fun features that lead kids on an exciting journey through God's Word and help build on their relationship with God.Visit www.AdventureBible.com for games and activities.

Reesman Jeanne Campbell, Hodson Sara S., Adam Philip, London Jack (PHT) Title : Jack London, Photographer
Author: Reesman Jeanne Campbell, Hodson Sara S., Adam Philip, London Jack (PHT)
Publisher: Univ of Georgia Pr

Jack London (1876–1916) remains one of the most widely read American writers, known for his naturalist fiction, socialist novels and essays, journalism, and the many adventures that he shared with the world. London was also an accomplished photographer, producing nearly twelve thousand photographs during his lifetime. Jack London, Photographer, the first book devoted to London’s photography, reveals a vital dimension of his artistry, barely known until now.

London’s subjects included such peoples as the ragged homeless of London’s East End and the freezing refugees of the Russo-Japanese War, the latter photographed on assignment for the Hearst Syndicate. For Collier’s magazine, London wrote his eyewitness account of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire and returned two weeks later with his camera to document a city in ruins but slowly recovering. During his voyage aboard the Snark, London produced humane images of the South Seas islanders that contrasted dramatically with the period’s stereotypical portraits of indigenous peoples. In 1914 he documented the U.S. invasion of Veracruz during the Mexican Revolution. Although some of his images were used in newspaper and magazine stories and in his books The People of the Abyss and The Cruise of the Snark, the majority have remained unpublished until now.

The volume’s more than two hundred photographs were printed from the original negatives in the California State Parks collection and from the original photographs in albums at the Huntington Library. They are reproduced here as duotones from silver gelatin prints. The general and chapter introductions place London’s photographs in the context of his writings and his times.

London lived during the first true mass-media era, when the use of photographic images ushered in a new way of covering the news. With his discerning eye, London recorded historical moments through the faces and bodies of the people who lived them, creating memorable portraits of individuals whose cultural differences pale beside their common humanity.

Author: Rees Philip (EDT), Mackay Louise (EDT), Martin David (EDT), Durham Helen (EDT)
Publisher: Information Science Reference

Disciplines driven by visuals and statistics, such as geography, have become the direct beneficiaries of new technologies and applications to distance and collaborative learning. The reports and papers collected here reflect the wide range of new programs and systems, detailing progress in the exchange of learning materials and modules, collaboration in planning and development, shared learning through global positioning systems, regional and international-level census and population analysis, environmental management across borders, tool kits to guide the design of effective learning activities, semantic tools to support concept-based learning, geography-related multimedia, collaborative use of archives, and lessons learned. Especially impressive are the models for international study groups and scholarly exchanges. The editors include selected readings, sample online learning activities, and information on collaborative geographic information systems.
