"La strana morte dell'Europa" mostra senza ipocrisie e nascondimenti tre aspetti fondamentali della crisi che scuote il nostro continente, dinanzi ai quali chiudere gli occhi implica soltanto lasciare campo libero all'estrema destra razzista: 1) il radicale cambiamento nella composizione culturale e religiosa che l'immigrazione già comporta e può, a maggior ragione, comportare in futuro; 2) il naufragio del multiculturalismo; 3) l'illusione, coltivata soprattutto dalle élite liberal, di affidare l'integrazione a quella che Murray definisce «cieca fede nella società dei consumi». Viviamo in un'epoca definita post-moderna, un termine ambiguo che indica però un dato di fatto: la fine delle grandi narrazioni, delle fedi religiose e politiche che hanno alimentato i secoli passati, e la conseguente negazione di ogni verità che non sia soltanto un'interpretazione. Si può vivere, però, senza un criterio che orienti le nostre scelte? Senza nessun racconto che offra un perché alla vita? Poiché la natura aborre il vuoto, nella nostra epoca post-moderna si è fatta strada, secondo Murray, una nuova metafisica, una nuova religione: la «politica identitaria». Una politica che «atomizza a la società in diversi gruppi d'interesse in base al sesso (o genere), alla razza, alle preferenze sessuali e così via». E che invita costantemente a cercare «dentro noi stessi e negli altri tutte le istanze di identità e vulnerabilità» capaci di rivendicare un valore aggiunto, una superiorità morale che deve essere riconosciuta come un diritto indiscusso. Questa religione "identitaria" non può, per Murray, che generare follia. Quella follia che spinge, ad esempio, a dichiarare che vi è «un'accresciuta conoscenza morale» derivante dal fatto di essere neri o donne o gay

Why do parents hit those they love? What effect does it have on children? What can be done to end this pattern? These are some of the questions explored in The Primordial Violence. Featuring longitudinal data from over 7,000 U.S. families as well as results from a 32 nation study, the book presents the latest research on the extent to which spanking is used in different cultures and the subsequent effects of its use on children and on society. Evidence that shows the relationship between spanking and the subsequent slowing of cognitive development and increase in antisocial and criminal behavior is shown. Both cross-sectional and longitudinal studies are explored in an accessible fashion. An abundance of high quality research has produced findings that are highly consistent from study to study which show that spanking is a risk factor for aggressive behavior and other social and psychological problems. Because of these findings, the authors argue for policy changes and recommend a drastic reduction in the use of spanking. Policy and practical implications are explored in most chapters.
