Lo studio illustra la storia sociale del cristianesimo primitivo, cioè l'economia e la società del mondo mediterraneo del I secolo e del giudaismo in terra di Israele in epoca ellenistico-romana. In particolare, si sofferma sulle influenze che l'economia antica ha esercitato sulla vita degli uomini, nel quadro di un'analisi differenziata delle condizioni sociali e della stratificazione della società. Una speciale attenzione viene rivolta alla comparazione storico-sociale del movimento di Gesù con gli altri gruppi religiosi esistenti in terra di Israele, oltre che alla collocazione sociologica e al contesto sociale delle comunità cristiane nelle città dell'Impero romano. Si descrivono, inoltre, i conflitti delle comunità cristiane con l'ambiente pagano circostante e il giudaismo della diaspora. Il volume affronta infine anche il problema dei ruoli sociali e della condizione delle donne nel mondo mediterraneo in generale e nel giudaismo e cristianesimo primitivo in particolare.

Modeling of flow and transport in groundwater has become an important focus of scientific research in recent years. Most contributions to this subject deal with flow situations, where density and viscosity changes in the fluid are neglected. This restriction may not always be justified. 'James Herriot, veterinario generico dello Yorkshire, è forse la figura più famosa di un veterinario tuttologo, cioè di un professionista, sicuramente preparato nella pratica della professione 'in campo' anche se negli ultimi libri racconta di svolgere parte della sua attività sui piccoli animali in un ambulatorio allestito nel garage della sua abitazione. Il modo di descrivere la professione veterinaria di quei tempi, seppur molto romantico, da, con buona approssimazione quello che era anche in Italia il ruolo del veterinario condotto nello stesso periodo di questo secolo. Negli ultimi vent'anni, circa, la professione veterinaria si è fortemente specializzata differenziandosi in vari settori: gli animali da compagnia, i cavalli da corsa, l'alimentazione, gli animali da reddito ecc. e, non da ultimo, i dipendenti delle ASL. Anche in queste specializzazioni, o ottenute con scuole universitarie o maturate con anni di professione, la preparazione si è rivelata insufficiente all'esercizio della professione veterinaria con corretta professionalità e competenza.
