'Beppo', short for Giuseppe, was a Venetian whose wife Laura believed him to be dead at sea and therefore, following the Venetian tradition, she accepted to be accompanied by a Cicisbeo or Cavalier Servant, who attended her at public entertainments. One day the dead husband reappeared and so Laura rejoined Beppo and befriended her cicisbeo. Byron tells this story using the ottava rima rhyme scheme, which emphasizes satiric digression. The poem is divided into 99 stanzas and contains 782 verses. € 12,00
