![]() ![]() Author: Ruff Thomas Publisher: Rizzoli Intl Pubns Thomas Ruff is acknowledged as a leading innovator in the generation of German artists that propelled photography into mainstream art. For more than two decades, he has pushed the limits of the photographic medium, harnessing technologies both old and new. Traditionally, photograms are made by placing objects onto photosensitive paper and exposing the paper to light, thereby recording the silhouettes of the objects. Captivated by this method but seeking to work beyond its limitations, Ruff collaborated with a 3-D imaging expert to design a virtual darkroom that would enable him to experiment with an infinite range of forms.Negatives are a direct result of Ruff’s photogram process; the white and slate-blue images are inverted versions of early-twentieth-century nude studies. € 73,90

![]() ![]() Author: Ruff Thomas, Guyton Wade, Price Seth, Walker Kelley, Hadjidjanos Spiros Publisher: Kehrer Verlag Heidelberg For the first time, Photographic Objects traces important conceptual connections between the work of Thomas Ruff and that of a younger generation of artists. Against the backdrop of ongoing debates on the "nature of photography," Marcus Kramer has developed a new approach to pinpointing what distinguishes the photographic medium from all others. The book's detailed illustrations offer an extensive overview of the work of Thomas Ruff, Wade Guyton, Seth Price, Kelley Walker, and Spiros Hadjidjanos, while the theory postulated here forms a conceptual framework for the discussion of contemporary artistic practices. € 44,60

![]() ![]() Author: Ruff Thomas (PHT), Kramer Markus Publisher: Kehrer Verlag Heidelberg The work of Thomas Ruff marks a paradigm change in photography: systematically and on an impressive level of aesthetic quality, the artist has for more than three decades been subjecting the medium of photography to a modernist analysis by introducing several formal innovations. One by one, Ruff has teased out basic parameters of the medium and their aesthetic interdependencies, taking photography beyond well-trodden paths. It's all the more remarkable, then, that exhibitions and the literature to date have tended to neglect these circumstances: up to now, the artist's work has repeatedly been presented and discussed exclusively in terms of its content and media-critical aspects. The present examination focuses instead for the first time on the unique pictorial vocabulary Thomas Ruff has developed, which with its powerful and complex aesthetic demonstrates?while consistently reflecting on its medium?how the use of photography can be freed from its traditional patterns of application. € 44,60

![]() ![]() Author: Ruff Thomas (PHT), Bono Melanie (EDT) Publisher: Consortium Book Sales & Dist Thomas Ruff is one of the most internationally well known contemporary German photographers. Over the course of two dozen photography series, he has explored and defined the medium's limits like no other contemporary artist. Since 1989, Ruff stopped taking and printing his own photographs in order to work with existing materials. His work is primarily concerned with questions that investigate the structure and content of the medium. Scientific images are the source material for all the photographs shown, and many of them were freely accessible via the internet. While Thomas Ruff's work for the stars series was limited to selecting details from photographs, he took a heavier hand in processing the source material in his new series: for the cassini and ma.r.s. series, Thomas Ruff utilised pictures from various NASA missions. He digitally retouched them, altered the colours, manipulated contrast and cropping. Ruff's colouration of the original realistic, black and white pictures gives them a new character: they become painterly, aesthetic pictures whose abstract beauty serves as a surface for our imaginations. The catalog focuses specifically on four of Thomas Ruff's series: the stars series, produced between 1989 and 1992, zycles from 2007, the cassini series from 2008/2009, and recent work from the ma.r.s. series, shown now for the first time in an institutional context. Individual works from other series that explore a similar theme are also shown. € 42,10

![]() ![]() Author: Ruff Thomas, Enwezor Okwui (CON) Publisher: Prestel Pub "Thomas Ruff (born in 1958), from the Becher class of internationally renowned photo artists, is a master of conceptual photography. His work, which contains neither narrative nor anecdotal moments and makes equal use of analog and digital production techniques, is an expression of a thoroughly scientific working method, which dissects its object, reassembles it and in so doing combines analysis and original creation. He became known in the 1980s with oversized and hyperrealist color portraits of his friends and fellow students at Kunstakademie Dèusseldorf. It was he who discovered the Diasec process for photography, a method borrowed from advertising of framing photographic prints and thus liberating the photograph from the ghetto of print cabinets.Since then, large-format photographic works have been proudly displayed on museum and gallery walls worldwide. [Title] presents selected photographs from all of the artist's series to date, starting with his small Interiors and large Portraits, to the starry skies and night shots, the nudes, recycled from pornographic material he found on the Internet, and abstract Substrates, to his stellar compositions based on astronomical photographs from ESO and NASA."--P [4] of cover. € 103,30

(CON) Publisher: Louisiana State Univ Pr In a blend of photographs and text, Under Stately Oaks showcases over 150 years of Louisiana State University's past, following the evolution of the tiny Seminary of Learning of the State of Louisiana, founded near Pineville in 1853, into a university of well over 30,000 students for the twenty-first century. Thomas F. Ruffin has written an affectionate history of LSU, but it is also an honest one. The notorious scandals of 1939, the university's desegregation struggles, and free-speech alley confrontations during the civil rights movement and the Vietnam War, as well as the football team's 2003 national championship and the university's pivotal role in relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina - all are chronicled here. € 40,60

![]() ![]() Author: Thomas R. Roosevelt, Woodruff Marjorie I. Publisher: Amacom Books A giraffe and an elephant consider themselves friends. But when the giraffe invites the elephant into his home, disaster strikes. The house has been designed to meet the needs of the tall, slender giraffe. The elephant smashes into doorways and walls trying to maneuver. The giraffe gently suggests aerobics and ballet classes. The elephant is unconvinced. To him, the house is the problem... R. Roosevelt Thomas, one of America's most respected experts on diversity, uses the metaphor of giraffes and elephants - insiders and outsiders - to examine our assumptions about power, influence, affirmative action, and acceptance of "the others." His richly accessible guide will have you thinking about these critical issues in a whole new way. And it will show you how to develop the quantifiable set of skills that are the essence of diversity management.~ € 23,80
