Jodidio Philip Title : The New Pavilions
Author: Jodidio Philip
Publisher: Thames & Hudson

The pavilion is the architectural form of the moment, enabling emerging architects to make their mark. Often ephemeral and orientated to a specific function, they are less expensive than their more permanent architectural cousins, which allows for more experimentation or inventiveness than in larger structures.Tents, bandstands, displays, places for sitting, listening, seeing, and being seen, pavilions have myriad forms and as many functions. For architects and designers, they offer unique opportunities to experiment with form, construction, material, structure, surface, and texture, often as prototypes for larger buildings or as purely artistic pursuits. A pavilion’s particular location also offers rich possibilities for interaction with the landscapes, streetscapes, and peoplescapes around it. Pavilions can be temples to digital interaction or provide oases of calm and isolation. The New Pavilions features a selection of the best examples produced in recent years, more than eighty projects, chosen by Philip Jodidio, one of the most widely knowledgeable writers on global architecture. From the cutting-edge forms of Sou Fujimoto to Zaha Hadid’s Chanel pavilion, from small structures created entirely out of farm waste to a mirrored carapace conceived by Olafur Eliasson, each pavilion provides a lesson in the extreme possibilities of built form and demonstrates that many of the biggest ideas in architecture start small.

Jodidio Philip Title : Contemporary Interiors
Author: Jodidio Philip
Publisher: Rizzoli Intl Pubns

A must-have design source, with cutting-edge ideas from the world’s best designers and architects.

Contemporary Interiors showcases a wide range of twenty-first-century residences by world-renowned architects and designers. Filled with more than 300 color illustrations, specialist Philip Jodidio compiles from around the globe fifty of the most innovative homes designed and built within the last five years.

Whether urban or rural, large or small, the book has projects that are international in scope: a summer home in Montauk by Roman & Williams, Houssein Jarouche’s apartment in Brazil by Triptyque; a David Adjaye house in West London; a Luxembourg “ecogreen” house by Richard Meier; a Studio Mumbai Palmyra house in India; a Shigeru Ban–designed villa in Sri Lanka; a Tadao Ando house in Monterrey; Sean Godsell’s Edward Street House in Melbourne, Australia.

The book has hundreds of design ideas from minimialist white to cozy color that can be applied to each room of the house. Sou Fujimoto experiments with a house that is entirely open, without clearly defined floors; Werner Sobek’s B10 House is designed to be dismantled in one day and rebuilt in the same time frame; Eduardo Arroyo’s house in Spain has iridescent polycarbonate walls that change colors with the light; the Leaf House by Mareines + Patalano architects has a curving swimming pool that enters the house and passes below the dining room where it becomes a pond with aquatic plants and fish; Steven Holl’s gallery and house in Seoul has his signature door that wraps into a corner, notched walls, and neo-constructivist lighting fixtures.

Jodidio Philip Title : Marc Mimram
Author: Jodidio Philip
Publisher: Prestel Pub

A generously illustrated monograph on the acclaimed French architect and engineer Marc Mimram whose original work is influenced by both disciplines. Since his debut as an architect and engineer with a footbridge over a highway in Toulouse, France, Marc Mimram has completed a large number of civil engineering structures and architectural projects in France and around the world. This book highlights Mimram's distinctive penchant for connecting
architecture with the natural world, as well as his profound
understanding of the relationship between design and
structure. Looking at key themes in Mimram's work over three
decades, this volume examines works such as the School of
Architecture in Strasbourg and the award-winning Hassan II
Bridge in Morocco to show how the architect's elegant and
economical designs evolve from an appreciation of the natural
or urban landscape of each project.

Jodidio Philip Title : Piano. Ediz. italiana
Author: Jodidio Philip
Publisher: Taschen

Jodidio Philip Title : European House
Author: Jodidio Philip
Publisher: Images

This beautifully illustrated book takes the reader on a journey through a number of outstanding contemporary houses designed and built across the richly varied and extraordinary European landscape.

Philip Jodidio presents his expertise and knowledge on the most profound influences of contemporary residential architecture in this region. This book pairs images of unique architecture and interior design and a comprehensive analysis of each project, set within full-color photographic portraits that all together reflect the strength of drive and progressive thinking that inspired these designs.

Though progressive, the architect s designs draw heavily on the local vernacular of the buildings of this region. Ordering principles borrow from the building's context and often relate metaphorically to the surrounding natural landscape, connecting the building to its site in a meaningful way.

Sustainability and green energy efficiency features are also crucial components in the house design objectives and are seamlessly integrated with the architecture and these influences are clearly illustrated in this impressive volume.

Jodidio Philip Title : The Japanese House Reinvented
Author: Jodidio Philip
Publisher: Monacelli Pr

Although Japanese architects have to contend with very particular constraints, from tiny plots in crowded urban contexts to ever-present seismic threats, their innovative solutions to the creation of space and stable structures, combined with their close attention to materials, technology and natural light, have resulted in homes that are internationally admired.

This overview of fifty recently built Japanese houses includes projects by three Pritzker Prize-winners— Tadao Ando, Shigeru Ban and Kazuyo Sejima—as well as by lesser-known emerging architects. Each house is clearly illustrated with colour photographs and plans, and is lucidly described by Philip Jodidio, who has travelled extensively around Japan and is deeply familiar with these projects and their creators. His book is a powerful demonstration of Japan’s enduring commitment to design innovation.

Jodidio Philip, Al Thani H. E. Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa (FRW), Halbe Roland (PHT) Title : The New Architecture of Qatar
Author: Jodidio Philip, Al Thani H. E. Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa (FRW), Halbe Roland (PHT)
Publisher: Skira

The contemporary architecture of Qatar includes some of the world’s most innovative commissions built in the past twenty years. This is the most comprehensive publication on the stunning new architecture of Qatar, highlighting more than fifty projects. A small, oil- and gas-rich Gulf country, Qatar has undergone a major transformation since the early 1980s. Fifty years ago, Doha, the capital of Qatar, was a small town built on Gulf commerce, fishing, and pearl diving. That began to change with the rise of the oil economy and the urban growth that resulted. The process accelerated during the global economic boom, creating an entirely new skyline in the West Bay area of Doha, and has continued apace since. Qatar’s landscape is dotted with structures designed by some of the most famous architects in the world, from the Doha Tower by Jean Nouvel, to the Museum of Islamic Art by I. M. Pei and Weill Cornell Medical College by Arata Isozaki. Situated in Education City, just outside of Doha, are buildings for American universities such as Carnegie Mellon University, designed by Ricardo Legorreta, a world-class hospital by Cesar Pelli, buildings by Rem Koolhaas such as the Qatar National Library, and the Al Shaqab Equestrian Academy—a riding venue located in the heart of Education City. The Emir of Qatar, his wife, Sheikha Moza, and his daughter, Sheika Al Mayassa, plan to make Qatar the cultural heart of the new Middle East with an architectural heritage to match.

Building a better future for our planet

Philip Jodidio Title : Tree Houses: Fairy Castles in the Air
Author: Philip Jodidio
Publisher: TASCHEN

Childhood fantasy meets grown-up savoir faire
The idea of climbing a tree for shelter, or just to see the earth from another perspective, is surely as old as humanity. Tree houses are chronicled in ancient civilizations and their lore crosses through the history of every part of the world where trees grow. Anchored in the earth, yet suspended in the sky, the tree house is in many ways emblematic of architecture itself. This stunningly illustrated study offers a tour of the best tree houses in the world, some designed by architects, others the work of anonymous craftsmen. A teahouse, a restaurant or a hotel can all take the form of a structure in the trees. A playhouse for children, or a perch from which to contemplate life—the tree house can take as many forms as the imagination can offer. In times of concern for sustainability and ecological responsibility, the tree house may also be the ultimate symbol of life in symbiosis with nature. Whether rustic or contemporary in style, tree houses make the most of space. Climb into this trove of tree houses and enjoy a new perspective on the world.

  • over 50 tree houses from around the world
  • covers all different styles, from romantic to modern
  • every house is depicted in several photos as well as one illustration custom made by illustration artist Patrick Hruby from Los Angeles (he also drew the book's cover)

Philip Jodidio Title : Alvaro Siza, Complete Works 1954-2012
Author: Philip Jodidio
Publisher: TASCHEN

The seminal book on Portugal's master architect
When Álvaro Siza, one of the great figures of contemporary architecture, won the prestigious Pritzker Prize in 1992, the Jury citation described his shapes as “molded by light, [with] a deceptive simplicity about them; they are honest. They solve design problems directly…. That simplicity, upon closer examination however, is revealed as great complexity. There is a subtle mastery underlying what appears to be natural creations.

Born in Matosinhos, Portugal, in 1933, Siza created his own practice in Porto in 1954, and he has been a Professor of Construction at the University there since 1976. He received the European Community’s Mies van der Rohe Prize in 1988 and the Praemium Imperiale in Japan in 1997, the 2009 RIBA Gold Medal, and the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale.

He has built a large number of projects in Portugal, and worked on the restructuring of the Chiado area of Lisbon following the devastating 1988 fire. Siza designed both the Portuguese Pavilion for the 1998 Lisbon World’s Fair and the 2005 Serpentine Pavilion in London in collaboration with Eduardo Souto de Moura. He completed the Serralves Foundation (Porto, 1998), and the Museum for the Iberê Camargo Foundation in Porto Alegre, Brazil in 2008.

As for all previous TASCHEN architect’s monographs, this book was realized in close collaboration with the architect and includes a full catalogue of his work to date.
