Clayton Ellen Wright, Krugman Richard D., Chaffee Tonya, Diaz Angela, English Abigail Title : Confronting Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Sex Trafficking of Minors in the United States
Author: Clayton Ellen Wright, Krugman Richard D., Chaffee Tonya, Diaz Angela, English Abigail
Publisher: Natl Academy Pr

'Every day in the United States, children and adolescents are victims of commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking. Despite the serious and long-term consequences for victims as well as their families, communities, and society, efforts to prevent, identify, and respond to these crimes are largely under supported, inefficient, uncoordinated, and unevaluated. Confronting Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Sex Trafficking of Minors in the United States examines commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents of the United States under age 18. According to this report, efforts to prevent, identify, and respond to these crimes require better collaborative approaches that build upon the capabilities of people and entities from a range of sectors. In addition, such efforts need to confront demand and the individuals who commit and benefit from these crimes. The report recommends increased awareness and understanding, strengthening of the law's response, strengthening of research to advance understanding and to support the development of prevention and intervention strategies, support for multi-sector and interagency collaboration, and creation of a digital information-sharing platform. A nation that is unaware of these problems or disengaged from solutions unwittingly contributes to the ongoing abuse of minors. If acted upon in a coordinated and comprehensive manner, the recommendations of Confronting Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Sex Traffickingof Minors in the United States can help advance and strengthen the nation's emerging efforts to prevent, identify, and respond to commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking of minors in the United States'--Publisher's description.

Gilligan Richard (PHT), Borden Lain, Weyland Jocko, Seawright Paul Title : DIY / Underground Skateparks
Author: Gilligan Richard (PHT), Borden Lain, Weyland Jocko, Seawright Paul
Publisher: Prestel Pub

A skateboarding book like no other, this collection of stunning color photographs from around the world reveals an authentic, unsentimental view of an often overglamorized subculture. The Irish photographer and skateboarder Richard Gilligan spent four years traveling through Europe and the US to photograph homemade skateparks. The resulting photographs are not your run-of-the-mill action shots filled with miraculous body moves, slashes, twists, and turns. Instead, Gilligan chooses to focus on the sport's 'negative space': the out-of-the-way concrete embankments, nondescript suburban lots where kids come to practice, a simple wooden ramp so insubstantial that no one but a skateboarder would recognize its use. Many of these photographs can be appreciated as unique, if prosaic, landscapes, but Gilligan also populates his pictures with skaters at rest, smoking alone, hanging out together, or walking home, board in hand. The images offer a grittily beautiful tribute to the ineffable hunger that unites all skateboarders--young, old, rich, poor. In these photographs Gilligan realizes the act of skating represents more than a quest for glory, but a means of self expression.

Witnessing his city's dark evolution, the Dark Knight completes his transformation into the city's greatest defender. He faces multiple threats, including the seeming return of a serial killer called Holiday. Batman's previous investigation of Holiday's killings revealed that more than one person was responsible for the murders. So the question remains: who is committing Holiday's crimes this time? And how many will die before Batman learns the truth?

Wright Richard Thomas Title : Barkerville and the Cariboo Goldfields
Author: Wright Richard Thomas
Publisher: Heritage House Pub Co Ltd

The stories of the men and women who dug for gold on Williams Creek are told in this revised and updated edition of a Canadian bestseller.

The legendary town of Barkerville is flourishing today, just as it did more than 150 years ago, but this time under the care of professional and amateur historians. Richard Thomas Wright peels back the pages of history as he unearths the area's history and chronicles the fortunes and the follies of gold-rush-era Barkerville. The result of years of around-the-world research, Barkerville and the Cariboo Goldfields brings to life the men and women of the creeks who came in search of gold and left their mark on BC history. Wright mined the archives to bring forth new information on the development of the Cariboo goldfields and nearby places of interest.

Barkerville includes dozens of little-known historical photos and a complete index. It is the best, most comprehensive source of detailed information on this important national heritage site.

Weddington Sarah, Richards Cecile (FRW), Seawright Rebecca (INT) Title : A Question of Choice
Author: Weddington Sarah, Richards Cecile (FRW), Seawright Rebecca (INT)
Publisher: Feminist Pr

'As a husband and as a father of a daughter, I am moved by Sarah Weddington's eloquent reminder of what Roe truly means?that our most private decisions can be made behind the closed doors of our homes, with our families, and in private conversations with our hearts.'?Bill Clinton

'A milestone. . . . She recounts with clarity and fervor the remarkable story of how she, her husband and a few other lawyers, supported by a handful of doctors and pro-choice advocates, researched and prepared briefs invoking the 'right of privacy' defense as a main argument to challenge the Texas anti-abortion law.'?Publishers Weekly

On the fortieth anniversary of Roe v. Wade, women's reproductive freedom is just as contested as it was before abortion was made legal. Adding a new chapter to her celebrated book about the story behind that great legal challenge, Sarah Weddington brings up-to-date the status of choice and constitutional law.

Sarah Weddington is an attorney and lecturer from Austin, Texas. She became a key figure in the reproductive rights movement when at the age of twenty-seven she successfully argued Roe v. Wade, the landmark court case that gave American women the right to abortion. She has served in the Texas House of Representatives and was a White House advisor to President Jimmy Carter. Weddington is currently a professor of law and women's studies and travels around the country lecturing on leadership and women's issues.

Wright Richard, Hakutani Yoshinobu (EDT), Tener Robert L. (EDT), Wright Julia (INT) Title : Haiku
Author: Wright Richard, Hakutani Yoshinobu (EDT), Tener Robert L. (EDT), Wright Julia (INT)
Publisher: Arcade Pub

Richard Wright, one of the early forceful and eloquent spokesmen for black Americans, author of the acclaimed Native Son and Black Boy, discovered the haiku in the last eighteen months of life. He attempted to capture, through his sensibility as an African-American, the elusive Zen discipline and beauty in depicting man's relationship, not only to his fellow man as he had in the raw and forceful prose of his fiction, but to the natural world. In all, he wrote over 4,000 haiku.

Here are the 817 he personally chose; Wright's haiku, disciplined and steeped in beauty, display a universality that transcends both race and color without ever denying them. Wright wrote his haiku obsessively—in bed, in cafes, in restaurants, in both Paris and the French countryside. They offered him a new form of expression and a new vision: with the threat of death constantly before him, he found in them inspiration, beauty, and insights. Fighting illness and frequently bedridden, deeply upset by the recent loss of his mother, Ella, Wright continued, as his daughter notes in her introduction, “to spin these poems of light out of the gathering darkness.”

Author: Wright Walter C. Jr., Mouw Richard J. (FRW), Peterson Eugene H. (FRW)
Publisher: Ivp Books

Leadership. What does it mean? How do I do it? Who is a leader and who is not? Relational Leadership will stimulate your thinking about leadership and management, causing you to both ask questions and find answers. Ultimately, this will enable you to invest yourself in people for the sake of the kingdom. Drawing on leadership theory, his own experience and insights from Jude, Philemon and Colossians, Walter Wright has written a book that will be valuable to anyone in a position of leadership. Leadership is not an assigned role but a way of living that suffuses everything we do and are. The goal of this book is to empower others to contribute to achieving the mission of the organizations with which they are involved. Wright not only presents an ideal but offers practical suggestions for handling such thorny issues as the management of volunteers and performance reviews.

Wright Richard G. Ph.D. (EDT) Title : Sex Offender Laws
Author: Wright Richard G. Ph.D. (EDT)
Publisher: Springer Pub Co

'This volume of readings provides an excellent source of information about sex offender laws and policies.'--International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology

'Sex Offender Laws...is a good source for balanced, objective, and thorough critique of our current sex offender policies as well as a source for accurate information about a very heterogeneous population...The message that sexual abuse is often a multifaceted and complex issue and that policy based on quick fixes or knee jerk reactions do not often work will be informative and enlightening to many readers.'--Sex Roles

'[T]his fine book by Richard Wright and his distinguished collaborators provides the evidence that wise policy-makers would want to consider. It covers every major field of research concerning sex offenders and sexual offenses and provides evidence of bad practices and policies .Intellectually honest politicians should read this book.'
--Michael Tonry, LL.B,
Professor of Law and Public Policy
University of Minnesota Law School (From the Foreword)

In response to many high-profile cases of sexual assault, federal and state governments have placed a number of unique criminal sanctions on sex offenders. These include residency restrictions, exclusionary zones, electronic monitoring, and chemical castration. However, the majority of sex offender policies are not based on empirical evidence, nor have they demonstrated any significant reductions in offender recidivism. In fact, some of these policies have unintended consequences, which actually increase the likelihood of sexual offenses.

In this book, Wright critically analyzes existing policies, and assesses the most effective approaches in preventing sex offender recidivism. This provocative and timely book draws from the fields of criminal justice, law, forensic psychology, and social work to examine how current laws and policies are enacted and what to-date is known about their efficacy. In response to the failed policies of sex offender laws, this book presents alternative models and approaches to sex offense laws and policies. Wright also explores critical, cutting-edge topics, such as internet sexual solicitation, the death penalty, and community responses to sex offense.

Key Features:

  • An introduction and overview of the history of sex offender laws
  • Analyzes the role of the media in sex offense and sex offender policies
  • Examines the political 'untouchability' of sex offender laws and their adverse effects
  • Features interviews with victims of sexual assault, investigating their points of views on what kinds of reforms need to be made to sex offender laws

Thought-provoking and insightful, Sex Offender Laws serves as a vital resource for policy makers, researchers, and students of criminal justice, law, and social work.

Cross Damon is a man at odds with society and with himself—a man of superior intellect who hungers for peace but who brings terror and destruction wherever he goes.

From Richard Wright, one of the most powerful, acclaimed, and essential American authors of the twentieth century, comes a compelling story of a black man's attempt to escape his past and start anew in Harlem. The Outsider is an important work of fiction that depicts American racism and its devastating consequences in raw and unflinching terms. At once brilliantly imagined and frighteningly prescient, it is an epic exploration of the tragic roots of criminal behavior.

Author: Wright Richard, Jones Edward P. (FRW)
Publisher: Harper Perennial Modern Classics

Richard Wright grew up in the woods of Mississippi, with poverty, hunger, fear, and hatred. He lied, stole, and raged at those around him; at six he was a 'drunkard,' hanging about taverns. Surly, brutal, cold, suspicious, and self-pitying, he was surrounded on one side by whites who were either indifferent to him, pitying, or cruel, and on the other by blacks who resented anyone trying to rise above the common lot.

Black Boy is Richard Wright's powerful account of his journey from innocence to experience in the Jim Crow South. It is at once an unashamed confession and a profound indictment—a poignant and disturbing record of social injustice and human suffering.
