On the occasion of the group exhibition Word is round at FRAC des Pays de la Loire, curator Marie de Brugerolle invited four artists in residence with diverse backgrounds and practices-Mads Lindberg, Kirsten Mosher, Martin Vongrej, and Anna Wittenberg-to forge connections with works from the collection by Marie Bourget, Jordan Derrien, and Lili Dujourie. The exhibition, conceived as a choreography, brings together singular works that resonate with each other in an open and circular dialogue and exchange. Thanks to Marie de Brugerolle's essay, this illustrated catalogue extends the polyphonic atmosphere of the exhibition, inviting the reader to rethink the world as a polysphere. Known for his interdisciplinary practice uniting sound, film, and performance, Greek-British artist Mikhail Karikis creates works shaped by a deep sense of social and environmental responsibility. This richly illustrated monograph, published in conjunction with his large-scale solo exhibition at the Kunstmuseum St.Gallen, presents his latest participatory projects, which explore the intertwined themes of voice, community, and ecological transformation. Featuring essays by international authors, as well as a conversation between Karikis and artist-collaborators Sonia Boyce and Zineb Sedira, the publication offers a comprehensive view of Karikis's experimental and socially engaged approach. What happens when you fuse an exhibition format with a versatile space for daily domestic encounters? Since 2019, the Palazzina team has explored this question in three different neighborhoods. A pea-pod, a huge bag, a potted plant, advertising slogans, self-help books-in her work, Sereina Steinemann focuses on simple things, everyday life, normality. Her first comprehensive presentation is therefore simply called Works and covers the entire spectrum of her production, from paintings to flyers, and from drawings to sculptures. While the Swiss artist clearly shares her interest in the world of commodities with Pop Art, she presents these ordinary things with great affection and with a smile, instead of as cool-sleek still lives. Thanks to the simplicity of the motif and painting style, her works have a quietly touching impact-as in her painting of a colourful striped woollen sock or a blue cup on a red-and-white checked tablecloth. Published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition curated by Paola Nicolin at XNL Piacenza, Michele Lombardelli: Piacenza - Los Angeles offers a literary bridge between these two very different cities through the art and poetry publications edited by Lombardelli between 1991 and 2008. Over the years, Lombardelli's work has facilitated artistic encounters with some of the most brilliant personalities from Emilia, such as William Xerra, Carlo Berté, Mauro Sargiani, Emilio Villa, and Aldo Tagliaferri, as well as with great US poets and artists like Robert Crosson, John Baldessari, Martha Ronk, Dennis Phillips, and Guy Bennett. This network of exchanges and friendships forms the basis of the volume, in which Lombardelli, together with his friend, the poet Paul Vangelisti, skillfully intertwine poetry, visual arts, music, and literature. How are city transformations to be read? How are we to interpret the incessant metamorphosis of places and social relationships that has characterized urban contexts since their inception? These questions drive Knots, a collaborative research project by the Politecnico di Milano's Department of Architecture and Urban Studies (DAStU) and Prospekt, a photojournalism agency dedicated to chronicling urban issues worldwide. By reshaping how we question urban transformations, Knots seeks to uncover overlooked dimensions of change, particularly in Milan's Scali. Showcasing outcomes from interdisciplinary workshops, the book highlights the value of crossing disciplinary boundaries to spark critical yet grounded discussions on the ways cities and their social fabrics evolve.
