A Fatal Attraction
Book (italiano):
Padovani (political economy of the mass media, Southern Illinois U.) presents a history of the lottizzazione system at Italy's public television broadcaster RAI, the system whereby positions of power within the broadcaster were parceled out according to political party. Her history runs from the time of Christian Democratic Party domination of RAI (1954-1975) through the era after the ending of lottizzazione in 1992. Contrary to the conventional wisdom, she argues that party interference in RAI has sometimes served to strengthen public service broadcasting and that the partisan journalism that characterized RAI during lottizzazione helped enhance RAI's democratic potentials.
