The Golden Fleece
Book (italiano):
This volume edited by Donini (international studies, Tufts U.) interrogates the role of humanitarian NGOs in zones of conflict, and the extent to which they can remain politically neutral while serving their goals of saving lives and reducing suffering. The metaphor of the golden fleece story highlights the interrelationship between humanitarian and political action, whereby the apolitical quest for the fleece is inextricably linked with political results. The book moves from a historical examination of humanitarianism, through long-term analysis of situations with continuing relevance in Afghanistan, Darfur, Somalia, Palestine, Pakistan, and Haiti, to treatment of humanitarian food aid and protection and how they can be politically manipulated. Introductory and concluding remarks are offered by the editor. Kumarian Press is an imprint of Stylus Publishing. Annotation ©2014 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
