War and Society in Scandinavia 1914-1950
Book (italiano):
Though Norway, Finland, Sweden, and Denmark share many features, they were very differently affected by the wars and crises of the period, but each of them was also affected differently by each of the two world wars. Impacts in a range of areas are described by scholars in those fields, or historians with that particular bent. Taking first war and then postwar society, they consider such topics as the loyalty issue affected Swedish-speaking Finns during the war of 1918, images and perceptions of the Nazi regime and the Germans in the Danish underground press 1941-45, the wartime need for fish and its consequences for the Norwegian fishing industry, food supply in the plebiscite area of Schleswig 1918-20, opportunities and risks on the Iranian market 1933-39 as an illustration of Danish interests in the Middle East during the interwar period, and the problem of criminal youth in Finland during the 1940s and 1950s. Most of the 13 papers were presented in earlier form at conferences in 2003 and 2004. They are not indexed. Distributed in the US by ISBS.
