Fostering Independent Learning
Book (italiano):
Harvey (school psychology, U. of Massachusetts Boston) and Chickie-Wolfe, a fifth-grade teacher and adjunct at Purdue U. Calumet, present a guide to helping students from upper elementary school through college become independent learners. They discuss the underlying psychological factors that influence learning and emphasize student self-regulation. They use research from different areas of psychology and special and gifted/talented education, provide vignettes based on their experiences, and incorporate materials and reproducible handouts and worksheets. Strategies, which can be used in different settings, describe working with families and friends, classroom considerations, empowering motivation and the self-regulation of emotional reactions and behavior, and helping students with time management and organization. Other chapters cover self-regulation of cognition, reading, and writing; mastering of math, science, and technology; and successful test-taking. The book is aimed at teachers, school psychologists, tutors, school counselors, coaches, and others. Annotation ©2007 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
