Encyclopedia Of American Political Parties And Elections
Book (italiano):
In their introduction editors Sabato (director, U. of Virginia Center for Politics) and Ernst (United States Naval Academy) describe the need for non-superficial understanding of the American electoral process in a "post-Watergate, post-dangling chad, post-campaign finance reform world." Prepared for students (high school and above) and for journalists, government officials, teachers, and general readers, this reference presents 450 entries, ranging in length from a paragraph to two full pages, discussing key terms and concepts with attention to historical context and controversies. Inexplicably, the publisher identifies Sabato and Ernst as "authors" rather than "editors"; the entries, which are signed, were prepared by 100 or so history and political science academics as well as some political practitioners and journalists. Each entry includes references for further reading, and cross-references. A few b&w illustrations, tables and photographs supplement the text. Indexing is thorough.
