Frontiers in Resource and Rural Economics
Book (italiano):
The editors (professors of agricultural economics at Oregon State U.) present 14 essays that aim to expand knowledge about resource and rural economics by exploring the interdependencies between natural resource management and rural development as well as between rural and urban communities. After introductory reviews of the resource and rural economics literature, four papers explore economic and ecosystem relations; recent theoretical developments in rural economic research; modeling the influence of natural amenities on the location of economic activity; and empirical research on natural amenities, human capital investment, human migration, and economic growth in the Pacific Northwest. Five papers next address issues of public policy, including location-influenced poverty, rural education, property taxation and the distribution of rural resource rents, and the influence of rural-urban interdependence on political systems. The last two chapters consider future trends in research and policy. Distributed in the US by Johns Hopkins U. Press. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
