Author: Hartl Daniel L.; Jones Elizabeh W.; Barale R. (cur.)
Publisher: Edises

Jones Jaida, Bennett Danielle Title : Havemercy
Author: Jones Jaida, Bennett Danielle
Publisher: Spectra

This stunning epic fantasy debut introduces two exciting new authors—and a world brimming with natural and man-made wonders, extraordinary events, and a crisis that will test the mettle of men, the boundaries of magic, and the heart and soul of a kingdom.

Thanks to its elite Dragon Corps, the capital city of Volstov has all but won the hundred years' war with its neighboring enemy, the Ke-Han. The renegade airmen who fly the corps's mechanical, magic-fueled dragons are Volstov's greatest weapon. But now one of its members is at the center of a scandal that may turn the tide of victory. To counter the threat, four ill-assorted heroes must converge to save their kingdom: an exiled magician, a naive country boy, a young student—and the unpredictable ace who flies the city's fiercest dragon, Havemercy. But on the eve of battle, these courageous men will face something that could make the most formidable of warriors hesitate, the most powerful of magicians weak, and the most unlikely of men allies in their quest to rise against it.

Jones J. Anthony A. (EDT), Vardanian Trahel G. (EDT), Hakopian Christina (EDT) Title : Threats to Global Water Security
Author: Jones J. Anthony A. (EDT), Vardanian Trahel G. (EDT), Hakopian Christina (EDT)
Publisher: Springer Verlag

Water resources are under threat in many parts of the world. Climate change and natural disasters like earthquakes are aggravating already critical situations. But a significant number of threats are posed directly by human interference and failings. A major theme in the book is the need for preparedness. Poor risk assessment, lack of emergency planning and poor institutional response are key factors in making natural disasters or human-induced problems worse. The problems are ones of water quality as well as quantity. A large section is devoted to the threats from climate change and extreme hydrological events. As global warming progresses most regions can expect an increase in the frequency of floods and droughts. But the rising cost of these events is also directly due to human mismanagement, lack of preparation and poor emergency response. Similar issues surround the threats from terrorism and armed conflicts, which are analysed by a special Working Group. A final section is devoted to analyses of the water resources problems surrounding the Aral Sea - perhaps the worst man-made disaster in history - in which experts from the region discuss the solutions being developed, the urgent need for international collaboration and the problems caused by the huge cost of rehabilitation.

Womack James P.; Jones Daniel T.; Galgano M. (cur.) Title : Lean solutions. La produzione snella incontra il consumo snello
Author: Womack James P.; Jones Daniel T.; Galgano M. (cur.)
Publisher: Guerini e Associati

Author: Jones Danell

Using Virginia Woolf's own words, this inspiring, instructive, and entertaining guide will delight fans, students, and teachers alike—and at last give Woolf a classroom of her own.

The value of experimentation

Nicholson Jon (PHT), Gray Ian, Hugh-Jones Tom, Rees Dan, Choudhury Sharmila Title : Ganges
Author: Nicholson Jon (PHT), Gray Ian, Hugh-Jones Tom, Rees Dan, Choudhury Sharmila
Publisher: Bbc Pubns

Rising from the pure glacial meltwaters of the Himalayas, the Ganges (Gang Ma or Great Mother) flows down onto India's northern plain and heads eastward into the swamplands of Bangladesh, finally discharging a vast, 310 mile tongue of silt into the Bay of Bengal. As well as filling wells and irrigating crops to sustain the cities and villages along its banks, it is the spiritual lifeblood of India's primary religion, Hinduism. Bathing in the Ganges remains the lifelong ambition of many of India's believing masses, who consider the river to be a living goddess. Ganges reveals the source of the river high in the Himalayas?the youngest mountain range in the world?and follows its route as it sharply incises the mountains on its journey southeast. Along the way, we discover the Hindu story of the river's creation and how it supports the myriad forms of life that thrive on its banks, and learn about the early exploration attempts by British explorers. With stunning images by photographer Jon Nicholson and accompanying text, Ganges is a true visual feast?as teeming with life and color as the mighty river itself.

Ariely Dan, Jones Simon (NRT) Title : Predictably Irrational (CD Audiobook)
Author: Ariely Dan, Jones Simon (NRT)
Publisher: Harperaudio

  • Why do our headaches persist after taking a one-cent aspirin but disappear when we take a 50-cent aspirin?
  • Why does recalling the Ten Commandments reduce our tendency to lie, even when we couldn't possibly be caught?
  • Why do we splurge on a lavish meal but cut coupons to save twenty-five cents on a can of soup?
  • Why do we go back for second helpings at the unlimited buffet, even when our stomachs are already full?
  • And how did we ever start spending $4.15 on a cup of coffee when, just a few years ago, we used to pay less than a dollar?

When it comes to making decisions in our lives, we think we're in control. We think we're making smart, rational choices. But are we?

In a series of illuminating, often surprising experiments, MIT behavioral economist Dan Ariely refutes the common assumption that we behave in fundamentally rational ways. Blending everyday experience with groundbreaking research, Ariely explains how expectations, emotions, social norms, and other invisible, seemingly illogical forces skew our reasoning abilities.

Not only do we make astonishingly simple mistakes every day, but we make the same types of mistakes, Ariely discovers. We consistently overpay, underestimate, and procrastinate. We fail to understand the profound effects of our emotions on what we want, and we overvalue what we already own. Yet these misguided behaviors are neither random nor senseless. They're systematic and predictable?making us predictably irrational.

From drinking coffee to losing weight, from buying a car to choosing a romantic partner, Ariely explains how to break through these systematic patterns of thought to make better decisions. Predictably Irrational will change the way we interact with the world?one small decision at a time.

Womack James P., Jones Daniel T., Roos Daniel Title : The Machine That Changed the World
Author: Womack James P., Jones Daniel T., Roos Daniel
Publisher: Free Pr

When The Machine That Changed the World was first published in 1990, Toyota was half the size of General Motors. Today Toyota is passing GM as the world's largest auto maker and is the most consistently successful global enterprise of the past fifty years. This management classic was the first book to reveal Toyota's lean production system that is the basis for its enduring success.

Now reissued with a new Foreword and Afterword, Machine contrasts two fundamentally different business systems -- lean versus mass, two very different ways of thinking about how humans work together to create value. Based on the largest and most thorough study ever undertaken of any industry -- MIT's five-year, fourteen-country International Motor Vehicle Program -- this book describes the entire managerial system of lean production.

Nearly twenty years ago, Womack, Jones, and Roos provided a comprehensive description of the entire lean system. They exhaustively documented its advantages over the mass production model pioneered by General Motors and predicted that lean production would eventually triumph. Indeed, they argued that it would triumph not just in manufacturing but in every value-creating activity from health care to retail to distribution.

Today The Machine That Changed the World provides enduring and essential guidance to managers and leaders in every industry seeking to transform traditional enterprises into exemplars of lean success.

Jones Daniel (EDT) Title : Modern Love
Author: Jones Daniel (EDT)
Publisher: Broadway Books

50 Irresistible True Accounts of Love in the Twenty-first Century.

A young woman wryly describes a relationship that races from start to finish almost entirely via text messages.

A Casanova is jilted after an idyllic three weeks and learns the hard way that the woman is, well, just not that into him.

An overweight woman in a sexless marriage wrestles with the rules of desire.

A young man recounts the high-wire act of sharing the woman he loves with both her husband and another boyfriend.

A female sergeant in the Missouri National Guard, fresh from Iraq, tells what she is not supposed to tell about the woman she is not allowed to love.

These are just a few of the people whose stories are included in Modern Love, a collection of the fifty most revealing, funny, stirring essays from the New York Times's popular “Modern Love” column. Editor Daniel Jones has arranged these tales to capture the ebb and flow of relationships, from seeking love and tying the knot to having children and finding love that endures. (Cynics and melancholics can skip right to the section on splitting up.) Taken together, these essays show through a modern lens how love drives, haunts, and enriches us.

For anyone who's loved, lost, stalked an ex, or made a lasting connection, and for the voyeur in all of us, Modern Love is the perfect match.

Jones Daniel (EDT) Title : The Bastard On The Couch
Author: Jones Daniel (EDT)
Publisher: Avon A

The husband of The Bitch in the House responds with a collection of original essays in which male writers describe what men desire, need, love, and loathe in their relationships and in the world today.

Cathi Hanauer's bestselling The Bitch in the House: 26 Women Tell the Truth about Sex, Solitude, Work, Motherhood, and Marriage spurred a national conversation about the level of friction in contemporary marriages and relationships. Now her husband, Daniel Jones, has rallied the men for the 'literary equivalent of The Full Monty,' in which twenty–seven thoughtful, passionate and often hilarious men, lay it bare when it comes to their wives and girlfriends, their hopes, and fears.

Enough with pop psychiatrists telling us why men lie, cheat, and want nothing more than to laze around the house in front of the TV. Enough with women wondering aloud–at increasing volume–why the men in their lives behave the way they do. The time has come for men to speak for themselves.

Many of the husbands and fathers in these pages contemplate aspects of their personal lives they've never before revealed in print–they kick open the door on their marriages and sex lives, their fathering and domestic conflicts, their most intimate relationships and situations. Yet unlike the average meat–and–potatoes father who still rules the roost, these men are grappling with new ideas of manhood –– some they are going after and grabbing, and others that are being thrust upon them by a changing world.

Powerful, heartfelt and irreverent, The Bastard on the Couch is a bold, unprecedented glimpse into the dark corners and glaring truths of modern relationships that is guaranteed to amuse, entertain, enrich, and provoke.

Author: Bruno Giordano, Imerti Arthur D. (TRN), Imerti Arthur D. (EDT), De Leon-Jones Karen Silvia (FRW), Imerti Arthur D.
Publisher: Bison Books

The itinerant Neoplatonic scholar Giordano Bruno (1548–1600), one of the most fascinating figures of the Renaissance, was burned at the stake for heresy by the Inquisition in Rome on Ash Wednesday in 1600. The primary evidence against him was the book Spaccio de la bestia trionfante, a daring indictment of the church that abounded in references to classical Greek mythology, Egyptian religion (especially the worship of Isis), Hermeticism, magic, and astrology.

The author of more than sixty works on mathematics, science, ethics, philosophy, metaphysics, the art of memory, and esoteric mysticism, Bruno had a profound impact on Western thought.

Daniel Jones Title : Jones Pronunciation Of English
Author: Daniel Jones
Publisher: BERTRAMS PRINT ON DEMAND

This revised edition incorporates the final results of Daniel Jones' lifelong study of English pronunciation usage. It is the standard work on English phonetics. The Pronunciation of English was written originally as a detailed description of the phonetics of English, presented from the point of vew of the native English-speaking student. However, it soon established itself as a standard textbook in universities where English is a foreign language, because it provides in a the key information needed by foreign students of the language. Most of the book is devoted to a descriptive account of English pronunciation. This is followed by illustrative texts in phonetic transcription of Received Pronunciation and several regional varieties, Scottish and American pronunciation and reconstructions of Shakespearian and Chaucerian speech.

Jones H. Lee, Gardner Dana Title : Birds of Belize
Author: Jones H. Lee, Gardner Dana
Publisher: Univ of Texas Pr

With nearly six hundred identified species of birds--and an average of five 'new' species discovered annually--Belize is becoming a birding hotspot for amateur and professional birders from around the globe. Thousands of birders visit the country each year to enjoy Belize's amazing abundance and variety of both temperate and tropical birds in natural habitats that remain largely unspoiled. But until now, despite the growing need for an authoritative identification guide, birders have had to rely on regional field guides that offer only limited information on Belizean birds. Birds of Belize provides the first complete guide to the identification of all currently known species--574 in all. The birds are grouped by families, with an introduction to each family that highlights its uniquely identifying characteristics and behaviors. The species accounts include all the details necessary for field identification: scientific and common names, size, plumage features, thorough voice descriptions, habitat, distribution, and status in Belize. Full color, expertly drawn illustrations by noted bird artist Dana Gardner present male and female, juvenile and adult, and basic and alternate plumages to aid visual identification throughout the year, while 234 range maps show the birds' distribution and seasonality in Belize. A comprehensive bibliography completes the volume.
