![]() ![]() Author: Parr Martin Publisher: Schirmer/Mosel Verlag Gmbh What does Hanover have to do with the United Kingdom and British Magnum photographer Martin Parr? Quite a lot, actually! Firstly, Hanover is celebrating the 300th anniversary of the coronation of Hanoverian Prince-Elector George Louis as King George I of Great Britain and Ireland. Secondly, the Sprengel Museum Hanover felt that no one was better suited than Martin Parr when it came to taking a tongue-in-cheek look at local Anglo-German history. Parr set out at the museum's behest in search of things British in and around Hanover. He visited the Lady Di Club in Hameln; the 'Britfest' in Paderborn; the reenactment group 'King's German Legion' in Hanover; a local celebration in honor of the Queen's birthday; the world's largest marksmen's festival, held annually in hanover; and British garrisons that were preparing to pull out. Under the fraternal motto 'We love Britain!' the upshot of his photographic quest can be viewed at the Sprengel Museum beginning in October 2014 and in the accompanying catalog. € 35,30

![]() ![]() Author: Sparrow Paul, Hird Martin, Cooper Cary L. Publisher: Palgrave Macmillan Written by a leading team of authors, Do We Need HR? explores the position of HR, asking pivotal questions such as: does making HR a separate business function still make sense? Should HR return to a narrower personnel role? Should key areas like talent management be relocated to leadership and management units outside of HR? The authors present a picture of what new lean HR structures might look like, arguing that in the tough current environment, HR could be facing diffusion or even disintegration as a result of new types of organizational design, business knowledge, and cross functional networks. Drawing upon exclusive research and interviews with HR directors, this expert team examines the challenges facing HR departments and provides actionable advice for managers contemplating the nature of HR in their own organizations. € 41,50

![]() ![]() Author: Martínková Irena (EDT), Parry Jim (EDT) Publisher: Routledge The study of sport is often thought of simply in terms of the sport sciences. This book explains how a phenomenological approach is capable of revealing the nature and meanings of sport in ways that are beyond the reach of the sciences and how the very concepts required by sport science stand in need of philosophical explanation. The book has a 'didactic' intention, seeking to present and discuss ideas and tools developed in the phenomenological tradition in order to illuminate issues in sport, in such a way as to be understandable for those without any previous knowledge or background. There are clear and straightforward accounts of the ideas of central thinkers, such as Husserl, Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty and Patocka, and applications of central ideas to the analysis of particular issues, such as the nature of risk sports, the feint in football, the problem of the instant replay, the role of the sport psychologist, the idea of 'bodily perception', and the concept of 'transhumanism' in relation to performance enhancement. This book was originally published as a special issue of Sport, Ethics and Philosophy. € 56,10

![]() ![]() Author: Jordan Bruce F., De Chaparro Martina Will (CON), Mares Tony (CON), Milligan Bryce (CON) Publisher: Bison Books From the back roads of New Mexico and out-of-the-way fields in southern Colorado to urban hinterlands in South Texas, photographer Bruce F. Jordan evokes the startling beauty and unique world of ethnic Mexican cemeteries in En Recuerdo de: The Dying Art of Mexican Cemeteries in the Southwest. These historic and often forgotten cities of the dead stand as testaments to the brilliance of Mexican artisans and craftsmen, the importance of kinship and community among ethnic Mexicans in the Southwest, and the perseverance of marginalized communities to honor and care for ancestors in death. Jordan’s sympathetic storytelling evokes for readers the atmosphere of many of these cemeteries. His arresting photographs are accompanied by his lively captions describing the significance of Mexican funerary carving traditions and the relationship of ethnic Mexican memory to cemeteries, and by Bryce Milligan’s interview with the photographer. With essays by Martina Will de Chaparro and Tony Mares that place the cemeteries within the unique historical context of the American Southwest, En Recuerdo de (In Memory of) illuminates these myriad lost cities of the dead and the significance of death and dying in Mexican culture. € 27,40

![]() ![]() Author: Bajac Quentin, Parr Martin Publisher: Ingram Pub Services Quentin Bajac, world recognized photo curator and Head of the Photography Department at the Museum of Modern Art, Centre Georges Pomidou in Paris had a conversation with photographer Martin Parr, which set the chapter outline for this book.
Martin Parr was born in Epsom, Surrey, UK in 1952. When he was a boy, his budding interest in the medium of photography was encouraged by his granfather Geroge Parr, himself a keen amateur photographer. Parr studied photography at Manchester Polytechnic, from 1970-1973. Since that time, Martin Parr has worked on numerous photographic projects. He has developed an international reputation for his innovative imagery, his oblique approach to social documentary, and his input to photographic culture within the UK and abroad. In 1994 he became a full member of Magnum Photographic Corporation. In recent years, he has developed an interest in filmmaking, and has started to use his photography within different conventions, such as fashion and advertising. In 2002 the Barbican Art Gallery and the National Media Museum initiated a large retrospective of Parr's work. This show toured Europe for the next 5 years. Parr was appointed Professor of Photography in 2004 at The University of Wales Newport campus. He was Guest Artistic Director for Rencontres D'Arles in 2004. In 2006 he was awarded the Erich Salomon Prize and the resulting Assorted Cocktail show opened at Photokina. In 2008 he was guest curator at the New York Photo Festival, curating the New Typologies exhibition. At PhotoEspana, 2008, he won the Baume et Mercier award in recognition of his professional career and contributions to contemporary photography. € 22,30
