Potremmo azzardare che sia un testo quasi profetico, visto che l'uomo ha continuato dal dopoguerra ad oggi a ripetere, con apparenti piccole variazioni, i medesimi errori, eludendo i saggi consigli di Howard. Albert Howard (1873-1947), micologo e botanico britannico, è considerato il padre dell'agricoltura biologica, maestro della gestione della fertilità del suolo. Nel momento in cui l'agricoltura cominciava a modificare radicalmente la produzione di cibo attraverso un uso sempre più intensivo di prodotti chimici, Howard raccomanda di prestare attenzione ai processi naturali.
