![]() ![]() Author: Harry Benson Publisher: TASCHEN 'These photos convey a really happy period for them and for me. It all comes down to music, they were without a doubt the greatest band of the 20th century, and that’s why these photographs are so important.' – Harry Benson, 2012 In early 1964, Harry Benson was getting on a plane for a foreign assignment in Africa, when he got a call from the photo editor of London newspaper The Daily Express. He was now going with The Beatles to Paris to document French Beatlemania and what followed was the biggest (ticket to) ride of his life. Benson was warmly welcomed into The Beatles’ inner sanctum, resulting in some of the most intimate photographs ever taken of the band, then on the cusp of world domination. In Paris, he took the famous photograph of the Fab Four having a pillow fight at the George V Hotel; he shot their groundbreaking first visit to the United States, the full impact of New York hysteria, their famous appearance on The Ed Sullivan show, the band in Florida, including their surprising encounter with Cassius Clay; as well as on the set of A Hard Day’s Night. The relationship continued in 1966, including George’s honeymoon in Barbados and their notorious US tour, under the shadow cast by Lennon’s comment that the Beatles were “bigger than Jesus Christ.” Benson’s luminous black and white photographs show at close quarters The Beatles composing, performing, encountering their fans, relaxing, and engaging with each other, while trying to cope with their increasingly isolating fame. In addition to hundreds of photographs, many previously unseen, there is an introductory essay by Benson as well as quotes and newspaper clippings from the period. First published in TASCHEN's limited edition - now available in this unlimited popular edition. € 64,20

![]() ![]() Author: Benson Harry (PHT), Benson Gigi (EDT) Publisher: Random House Inc Harry Benson’s rare, exclusive photos of the elusive and controversial chess genius Bobby Fischer taken during the historic World Championship chess match in Iceland in 1972 in which Fischer solidly defeated reining champ, Russian Boris Spassky, are collected here for the first time, in Bobby Fischer. Photographer Harry Benson was one of the very few people Bobby Fischer would talk to during the historic World Championship chess match in Iceland in 1972 in which Fischer solidly defeated reining world champion, Russian Boris Spassky. The match, known at the time as the “Game of the Century,” is now generally considered a battle in the Cold War between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. Benson’s exclusive photos of the elusive and controversial chess genius give insight into the private world of the man Benson calls “the most eccentric and most fascinating person I have ever photographed.” Benson’s intimate access to Fischer was not the easiest of tasks to accomplish. In fact, Fischer barred the door even when his mother arrived from America. Filled with idiosyncrasies and a complete loner, Fischer is still revered by chess fans around the world and is considered the greatest chess player of all time. € 37,00

![]() ![]() Author: Benson Harry (PHT), Benson Gigi (EDT), Soares Manuela (EDT) Publisher: Random House Inc “I do not run for the presidency merely to oppose any man but to propose new policies. I run because I am convinced that this country is on a perilous course and because I have such strong feelings about what must be done that I feel I am obliged to do all I can.” —Robert F. Kennedy A world-renowned photojournalist and chronicler of the twentieth century's most historic events, Harry Benson provides an eyewitness account of Robert F. Kennedy's campaign for the presidential nomination in R.F.K.: A Photographer's Journal. As a friend, advisor, and attorney general to his brother, John F. Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy stood at the heart of Washington politics. He is remembered today as a compassionate, articulate, and optimistic man—a friend to the poor, an avid civil rights advocate, a champion for peace. Harry Benson's images capture unprecedented intimate family outings and outdoor adventures with friends alongside every moment of Kennedy's brief but unforgettable presidential run, from his announcement of his candidacy on St. Patrick's Day, 1968, and the fervor and excitement of his days on the campaign trail, all the way through his shocking assassination in Los Angeles and the long, sweltering funeral procession to Arlington Cemetery. Here in elegant photographs are glimpses of the exhilarating successes and challenging setbacks of R.F.K.'s campaign, the chaos of that fateful night in L.A., and the mourning of hundreds of thousands after their hero was struck down. Released in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Kennedy's death, and supplemented with excerpts from his speeches and from Benson's own journals, R.F.K.: A Photographer's Journal is a fitting tribute to an extraordinary man and the legacy he left behind. € 35,70
