Previous scholars of Ifá have conveyed an impression that Ifá is a characteristic social institution with only religious, ethnographical and sociological significance. In fact, Ifá has been greatly misconceived as a mere religious and mythic discourse, devoid of any meaningful philosophical import. There is also the misconception that Ifá is now largely anachronistic. In Ifá in Yorùbá Thought System, the author shows that an adequate understanding of a text requires a transition from the manifest to the latent meaning and, therefore, analyses the Ifá literary corpus with a view to identifying the aspects of Ifá that are of philosophic relevance. He shows that fundamental philosophical issues, including nature of reality, knowledge, human conduct are embedded in Ifá. With reflective interpretation of an appreciable number of Ifá verses, the author also examines the utilitarian functions of Ifá, offers good insight into important political ideas and values that are relevant to much of the political challenges in contemporary society and how scientific and technological development can be enhanced within the context of the Yorùbá oral tradition. The Austrian artist Elfie Semotan (b. 1941; lives and works in New York and Vienna) also works as a photographer, creating portraits of models, artists, landscapes, and studios that have earned her international renown. 'Wien Mitte' is her first portrait of a building. The office and shopping complex is the largest new structure built in central Vienna in over a century. The core of the book consists of around 150 photographs of Semotan took during the unusually long period from the start of construction in 2008 until the completion of the complex in 2013. Defying the conventions of traditional architecture photography, Semotan traces the building's genesis with the characteristic keen eye for ambivalence that has distinguished her work for leading fashion magazines and and designers like Helmut Lang. Pesticide resistance has had a substantial impact on crop production and has been an important driver of change in modern agriculture, animal production and human health. Due to increased selection pressure, this resistance can be linked to export/import health and phytosanitary standards, invasive species eradication projects and global pandemics. However, the development of new biological and chemical products and the use of integrated pest management strategies have been successful in reducing pesticide resistance.
