Los personajes de estos cuentos se reflejan casi todos en el mar cristalino de la región del bajo Sulcis, en Cerdeña. Al hacerlo, se asoman al precipicio del tiempo, permitiendo que éste vea dentro de ellos. Más allá del decorado, el hilo rojo que los une es precisamente esta relación, esta confrontación directa o indirecta con los reflejos inefables de la relación entre el espacio y el tiempo. Chronos es el motor de estos relatos, en su devenir una curva, una espiral que genera un universo, si se quiere un multiverso. La narración, de hecho, intenta jugar con los cruces, las bifurcaciones de la vida. De este modo, las historias se encuentran a menudo entre lo posible y lo real. A veces parecen deslizarse por una cresta temblorosa, donde los contornos del hormigón se deshilachan, dejando espacio para lo improbable... y sin embargo posible. Senza una causa apparente, un raptus e un momento di follia trasformano pacati uomini in efferati assassini. Tore Marzeddu è dolce, forte e sincero, ma la vita lo porta a contatto con la sua natura nascosta, il pozzo oscuro di cui è contemporaneamente artefice e vittima. L'azione, la fuga, la latitanza, un amore perduto, un figlio inatteso e il carcere come conseguenza trasformeranno il fabbro di Villamargo in un eroe sconsacrato, senza speranza, senza futuro. Ma la corsa della vita non ha mai fine e in vecchiaia Tore si prepara a tornare in un mondo che non l'ha mai accettato e che ora è talmente cambiato da apparirgli ostile e pericoloso.
