The Factory Acts in Ireland, 1802-1914
Book (italiano):
Written for those interested in law or Irish history, this study focuses on the legal history of the Irish factory acts, which sought to improve the safety of workers in 19th-century Ireland, particularly in the dangerous linen industry. Greer (common law, Queen's University, Belfast) extends and updates Nicolson's Ph.D. thesis on the factory acts, completed in the history department of the University of Guelph, Ontario. The book looks at the development of early health and safety legislation, systems of inspection, enforcement, problems particular to Ireland, and the presence of women and young workers that led "the lady factory inspectors" to play a role. The authors conclude with a history of employers' liability. A handful of historical photographs is included. Distributed in the US by ISBS.
