Toward Wiser Public Judgment
Book (italiano):
In 1991's Public Judgment, Yankelovich argued that merely measuring public opinion fails to address whether that opinion has been formed as a process of meaningfully working through reconciling trade-offs in any particular policy course, and therefore reflective of thoughtful "public judgment," or whether they simply reflect short-term reactions to spin or partisan-issue framing that are apt to change direction at any moment. Here, together with Friedman, his colleague at Public Agenda (a non-profit political and policy research organization founded by Yankelovich and former Secretary of State Cyrus Vance), and other contributors, he revisits the issue, addressing the processes by which the public comes to considered judgment in the new media environment, implications for US politics, and the experiences of organizations that have sought to improve the means for the public to come to considered judgment on political and policy issues.
