The finite element method (FEM) has wide use in the designing and analyzing of complex structures. There are numerous different strategies for using FEM depending on the type and dementionality of the structure. The book presents a new method for formulating the finite elements that reduces the chance of using a poorly optimized approach. By formulating finite elements on the basis of Carrera Unified Formulation 1D, 2D, and 3D finite elements can be created on the same fundamental nucleus. This book uses extensive diagrams to explain the background for this application of FEM and illustrate different applications including the analysis of laminated structures and multifield problems.
