Resorts and Ports
Book (italiano):
In this collection of 11 essays, historians look at the symbiotic relationships between seaside resorts and coastal ports over the last 300 years in Europe, with cases from countries including Wales, the Netherlands, Norway, and Spain. Chapters are arranged chronologically and address topics and regions such as Brighton as port and resort; sea bathing, dock building, and oyster fishing in 19th-century Swansea; adaptation of 19th-century shipping and fisheries industries to 20th-century tourism in southern Norway; and art, heritage, and identity in the regeneration of Margate. The book is illustrated with a wealth of b&w historical photos and illustrations and will be of interest to academics in history, tourism, geography, and cultural studies. There is no subject index. Borsay teaches history at Aberystwyth University. Walton teaches history at the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU, Bilbao. The book is distributed in US by UTP Distribution.
