Anders Zorn
Book (italiano):
Published in conjunction with an exhibition at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston, this catalogue includes five essays and captioned presentation of paintings organized by category: society portraits, modern life, rural life, in the studio, and Isabella Stewart Gardner and her circle. Born and raised in Sweden, Zorn (1860-1920) is relatively unknown and neglected outside his home country. According to the foreword, one reason is that his works are dispersed between Europe and the US; this book and the exhibition offer a rare opportunity to see paintings from both continents. The other reason is that in the US, where he was known primarily as a portrait painter (although he did much more), Zorn was overshadowed by John Singer Sargent, while in Europe he was eclipsed by Edvard Munch. Distribution is by Casemate. Annotation ©2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
