Publication of On-line books
The publication of books on line is greatly increasing.
Understandably, there has been strong resistance from publishers and authors. There's the fear that no one will buy in bookstores what can be found free on Internet. Putting a book on-line does not compromise the saleability in any way. The physical possession of an interesting book is important; to be able to leaf through it on a train or in a comfortable armchair rather than reading it through the monitor of the PC-it's a nuisance. A book taken from Internet, not intending to read it from the monitor (and taking a toll on the eyesight) can be printed with a laser. But this is often expensive, with the costs of laser ink and the reader is left with a pile of loose sheets of paper in his hands. Overlooking the common myth that a book on the market reduces sales if present on Internet, let's study the advantages that this could involve. Books on Internet furnish the possibility to glimpse through a book with the intention of purchasing, a preview. Only the poorer quality books are penalised consequently exalting the better ones. On-line books may also cover those not yet published. "Cybernauts" approval is a parameter to understand if a book attracts readers and to what measure, before deciding to print it on paper with the relative distribution. How often today have publishers made clamorous errors by over or under-evaluating one book title or another? In the future, on-line publishing industry will benefit the work of selection by the publishers. This will also avoid the daily pilgrimage of aspiring authors to the big publishing companies where in the great majority of the cases the manuscripts are not even read. It will in fact, be in the publishers interest to seek on-line books on Internet that have acclaimed such success in cyberspace as to render convenient and profitable it's publication on paper and distribution in bookstores. In addition, the publication of a book on Internet may bring economical returns for itself. The software formula "shareware" may also be applied to on-line reading.
